The Humboldt University of Berlin is offering up to 20 Postdoctoral scholarships to study in Germany. German and international applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

The Humboldt University of Berlin is one of Berlin’s oldest universities, founded on 15 October 1811 as the University of Berlin by the liberal Prussian educational reformer and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt.

The call for proposals is aimed at excellent researchers who either already holds a Ph.D. or are about to complete their doctorate at Humboldt-Universität Zu Berlin and who wish to conduct a postdoctoral research project.

Humboldt University Scholarship Application

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue a Postdoctoral programme.

Study Subject: The funding helps recipients to prepare or start a postdoctoral research project.

Scholarship Award: Funding of €1,500 per month is awarded for up to six months; additional family allowances are available; travel expenses may be covered. In exceptional cases, funding can be extended for up to an additional six months.

Number of Scholarships: Humboldt-Universität Zu Berlin awards up to 20 Humboldt Post-Doc Scholarships each year. Half of these shall be awarded to women.

N/B: Scholarship can be taken in Germany

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Outstanding researchers who either already hold a PhD or are about to complete their doctorate at Humboldt University of Berlin and who wish to prepare or start a postdoctoral research project.

English language Requirements: Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

How to Apply

The application process for Humboldt Post-Doc Scholarships takes place via an online application portal. Applications will only be accepted via this portal, and the portal is only accessible during the application periods.

Once you have submitted your application via the online application portal, you will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail. Only complete applications can be considered.

The entire online application process can be completed in German or English.

  • Outline of the proposed research project (max. 5,000 characters)
  • Transcripts (B.A., M.A., PhD)
  • 1-3 key publications
  • Letter of recommendation from PhD supervisor
