About BEA Scholarship

The Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Division of the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) is primarily charged with the responsibility of implementing scholarship Awards between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governments of Countries that have signed Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) with Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Education’s mission is to use education to foster the development of all Nigerian Citizens to their full potentials in the promotion of a strong, democratic, egalitarian, prosperous, indivisible and indissoluble sovereign nation.

To achieve this they are offering the BEA scholarships to individuals who have met the required criteria to go outside the country and continue their studies.

What is BEA Awards Scholarship Worth?

According to , the federal government of Nigeria sets aside N73,169,907 for the award of scholarships to 3,700 students in Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in 2018.

The correspondent, who obtained this information from a breakdown of the 2018 budget for the Federal Ministry of Education, learned that another set of students, numbering 272, will be awarded scholarships to study in foreign countries that have the Bilateral Education Agreement with Nigeria.

The award and conduct of fresh 272 scholarships to Nigerians to study in countries that have a Bilateral Education Agreement with Nigeria was put at N13,000,000.

BEA Scholarship Courses

Below is Federal Government Scholarship Award (2021/2022) Tenable in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions Courses to be considered for the award are as follows:

  • Science and Technology
  • Medicine and Para-medicals
  • Education
  • Entreprenuerial Studies
  • ICT
  • Environmental Science
  • Law
  • HND
  • NCE
  • Agriculture
  • Liberal Arts/Social/Management Sciences

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

1. Undergraduate Scholarships

  • The BEA awards scholarship is open to Nigerian citizens only or international students residing in the country.
  • All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of Five (5) Distinctions (As & Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificates, WAEC (May/June) only in the subjects relevant to their fields of study including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Certificates should not be more than two (2) years old. For African
  • countries, the age of the certificate is one year only. The age limit is from 18 to 20 years.

2. Postgraduate Scholarships

  • The BEA awards scholarship is open to Nigerian citizens only or international students residing in the country.
  • All applicants for postgraduate degree courses must hold a First Class (1st Degree with at least 2nd Class Upper Division.) The applicants who are previous recipients of Foreign Awards must have completed at least two (2) years post qualification or employment practice in Nigeria. All applicants must have completed N.Y.S.C. Age limit is 35 years for Masters and 40 years for Ph.D. and only:
  • N.Y.S.C discharge or exemption certificates only are accepted;
  • Evidence of readiness to be released by the employer.

N/B: i) Since the BEA countries are non-English speaking, applicants should be prepared to undertake a mandatory one-year foreign Language course of the country of choice which will be the standard medium of instruction;

ii) Japan applicants must have a very strong background in further mathematics;

iii) The required certificates for candidates applying for Iman Preachers and Quranic Professor for Islamic Religious studies in Algeria is WAEC as in other scholarship awards;

iv) All applicants for the Hungarian Scholarship can apply for up to two fields of study in order of preference; and

v) All applicants for Hungarian Scholarships must visit the website:

Level/Field of Study

  • Sciences, Biotechnology, Architecture, Medicine (very limited), etc and
  • Postgraduate level (Masters Degree and Ph.D.) in all fields.

General Information

  • The scholarship is tenable in Nigeria and takes effect from the beginning of the academic session.
  • It shall not be held at the same time with another Award nor for part-time students.
  • Change of course or institution not allowed.
  • The scholarship award is to assist the scholar in the payment of (a) Institution charges and fees and (b) Personal maintenance.

Host Nationality:

The bilateral scholarship is to be taken Abroad in any of the countries listed below:

  • Undergraduate (UG) studies are tenable in Russia, Morocco, Algeria, Serbia, Hungary, Egypt, Turkey, Cuba, Romania, Ukraine, Japan, Macedonia; and
  • Postgraduate (PG) studies are tenable in Russia (for those whose first degrees were obtained from Russia), China, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, etc).

BEA Submission Guide

The application form is completed as follows:

  • Submit and Print a copy
  • Attach Photocopy of the following documents to the printed copy:
    • Letter of admission
    • Current Course Registration Form
    • Last sessional CGPA RESULT
    • Current School’s identity card
    • Letter of identification from your State/Local government.
    • Two(2) passport size photographs with your name written at the back and duly signed by you.
    • Note: Printed copy should be endorsed (signed and stamped) by your HOD or Dean of Faculty of your institution.
    • Submit two sets of the printed and endorsed form at the venue of the interviews as scheduled above

Note:

  • Eligible candidates are advised to make only one entry as multiple entries will be disqualified.
  • Candidates are allowed to attend interviews in centres nearest to them irrespective of the State of origin and Institution of domicile of candidates.
