Youth Empowerment Programs in Nigeria: We all know the current situation in Nigeria today especially as it relates to the youth, of course you know one of the those is in the area of unemployment,

a youth goes to school but he ends up not getting a job, I wouldn’t say it’s from the government because the government is trying in their own ways and the unemployment problem has long existed.

But over the years, various bodies and organizations have come up with programs and initiatives to support the Nigerian people, especially the Nigerian youths and that is what I will show you in this article.  

1. N-power.

The N-power is an initiative formed by the current president of Nigeria and believes me; this initiative has over time been of immense help to the Nigerian youth. This initiative helps works to provide Skills and knowledge and is the driving force of economic growth and social growth.

In spite of the present high level of unemployment, harnessing Nigeria’s young demography through suitable skill development efforts offers an opportunity to attain inclusion and productivity within the country. Large-scale skill development is the primary plan thrust of the N-Power Programme.

N-Power is also connected to the Federal Government’s policies in the economic, employment, and social development arenas. N-Power tackles the challenge of youth unemployment by giving a structure for large scale and pertinent work skills attainment and development while connecting its core and outcomes to fixing insufficient public services and stimulating the greater economy.

The modular programs under N-Power will guarantee that each participant will learn and practice most of what is essential to find or create work. The N-Power Volunteer Corp encompasses a massive deployment of 500,000 trained graduates who will work to improve the insufficiencies in our public services in education, health, and civic education.

Some of these graduates will also support in actualizing Nigeria’s economic and strategic ambitions of achieving food security and independence.

N-Power will also be a platform for expanding the economy. N-Power is preparing young Nigerians for a knowledge economy where, armed with world-class skills and certification, they become innovators and powerhouses in the domestic and global markets.

Application for N-power is usually done online via the N-power website and it simply needs you to decide on the program you want to apply. 2. Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative.

Another incredible youth empowerment problem is the Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative (YEDI). The Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative (YEDI) is an indigenous, Nigerian-run NGO that empowers and enlightens youth and inspiring communities using proven models or ideas modified for the Nigerian context.

This initiative was founded in 2011 to take over the first West Africa Grassroot Soccer model, which was developed in Southern Africa to lessen HIV incidence rates and stigma. Nigerian youths wanted a change in their communities using development through sports;

the drive was an immediate success. YEDI is increasing its programs to increase opportunities for youth and focuses on the additional challenges they face.

3. Youwin.

YouWiN! Is a national business-plan competition run by the Nigerian government to inspire enterprise, help grow small businesses, and make available jobs? National media campaigns encouraged qualified young citizens to register on a website and submit an outline of their business ideas for assessment.

A panel of judges evaluates the business’s ideas to find the most encouraging and those applicants are taught to prepare a business plan.

The panel then judges which business plans are most appropriate to succeed and the best receive a gift — 1,200 each year — to help them grow.

YouWiN gives grants in stages over the following year as it monitors the business’s development — sending workers to visit all the businesses — and checks that the money isn’t being abused.

This initiative builds and managed the websites and digital tools used by the program during four years of operation. Robust, secure, and independent IT supports were important to YouWiN!’s management team and funders. It helped them build trust in the program.

4. Graduate Internship Scheme.

The graduate internship scheme (GIS), a youth entrepreneurship program that is run and supported by the federal government of Nigeria came into operation in October 2012 and it has three main objectives:

to foster the employability of up to 50,000 unemployed graduates in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT via internship programs in pre-selected institutions;

to lessen the vulnerability of unemployed graduates, and to create manpower base towards attaining national development operations.
