RESULT GOTTEN FROM PRACTICAL OF CONGENITAL MALFORMATIONS ON THE FACE AN HEAD OF NEW BORN BABIES IN ABAKALIKI, NIGERIA

From the year 2005 – 2011, a period of six years, it was discovered from data obtained that out of 2,932 recorded births in Ebonyi State University Teaching hospital and Federal Medical center Abakaliki; there were 16 (0.55%) anomalies recorded. Federal Medical center Abakaliki had the highest number of congenital malformation with 9 cases (56.25%).Cleft/palate lips had the highest number of malformation with 3 cases (18.75).

        Table 1 shows the total number of births obtained from each hospital, the corresponding number of malformations for both hospitals and the percentages of malformations in relation to the total number of malformations.

        Table 2 shows the total number of low birth weight babies and the percentage in relation to the total number of births.

Table 3 shows the incidence of craniofacial malformation.
