Scholarships in France: France has become one of the most popular study destinations for international students. However, education and the cost of living in France are not always affordable.
Although annual tuition fees at public universities are relatively low, it could go very high at private universities. Fortunately, there are a number of French scholarships for foreign students that are being offered.
So to help you out, I have put together a list of 15 best scholarships in France for foreign students. They include:
1. Université Paris-Saclay International Master’s Scholarships
Deadline: May 13th
would like to promote access to its master’s (nationally-certified degree) programs to international students, taught in its member establishments, and to make it easier for highly-qualified foreign students to attend its University especially those wishing to develop an academic project through research up to the doctoral level.
The scholarship offered is €10,000 per year. It is paid by the establishment the candidate is registered in for the duration of the academic year, and for a period of no less than 10 consecutive months per year (September to June). Also, a maximum of €1,000 for travel and VISA expenses is also awarded depending on the candidate’s country of origin.
2. Ampère Excellence Scholarships for International Students
Deadline: January 10th
The Ampère Scholarships of Excellence provide excellent international students with the opportunity to pursue one of the eligible Master’s programs offered at ENS de Lyon. The scholarship is worth €1000 per month for 1-2 years.
3. Civil Society Leadership Awards
Deadline: May 15th
The Civil Society Leadership Awards (CSLA) provide a fully-funded master’s degree study to individuals who clearly demonstrate academic and professional excellence and a deep commitment to leading positive social change in their communities.
CSLA grantees will receive financial and administrative support for the following: pre-academic preparation through summer schools; program-related travel; tuition and mandatory university fees; monthly stipend for room, board, and other living expenses; accident and sickness insurance during the program; funds for educational materials and professional development; attendance at a regional Scholarship Programs conference; accommodations during the application process and the duration of the grant for applicants with disabilities.
4. Eiffel Scholarships in France for International Students
Deadline: January 10th
The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program was established by the to enable French higher education institutions to attract top foreign students to enroll in their masters and Ph.D. programs.
It gives an opportunity to the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors, in priority areas of study, and encourages applicants from developing countries at master’s level, and from developing and industrialized countries at the Ph.D. level.
For Master’s level studies, the includes a monthly allowance of €1,181 (a maintenance allowance of €1,031 and a monthly stipend of €150) and can be awarded for 12-36 months. For Ph.D. level studies, the Eiffel scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,400 and is awarded for a maximum of 12 months.
In addition, the program meets various expenses including international return trips, national and local transport, health insurance, and cultural activities. Scholarship holders may also receive an additional housing allowance, under certain conditions. However, tuition fees are not covered.
5. Emile Boutmy Scholarships at Sciences Po
Deadline: April 8th
Sciences Po created the Emile Boutmy Scholarships after the founder of Sciences Po in order to attract the very best international students from outside of the European Union who are first-time applicants and who have been admitted to an undergraduate or Master’s programme offered at the University.
The Emile Boutmy Undergraduate Programme can take different forms ranging from €3,000 to €12,300 for 3 years of undergraduate study. On an exceptional basis, a scholarship of €19,000 may be granted to cover the three years of College.
The Emile Boutmy Master’s Programme can take different forms, either a grant of €10,000 per year to cover tuition fees for the two years of the Masters or a tuition grant of €5,000 per year for the two years of the Masters.
6. ENS International Selection Scholarships
Deadline: October 31st
Each year, École Normale Supérieure (ENS) organizes an international selection allowing the most promising international students, either in Science or in Arts & Humanities, to follow a Masters Degree and Diploma at the University. A monthly grant of €1,000 for three years is offered, plus a room on one of the ENS campuses.
7. Ph.D. Scholarships at the University of Nantes in France
Deadline: December 7th
The University of Nantes is offering Eiffel Excellence Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. degree program in the field of Economics, Law and Political Science. The scholarship is available for international students. This is a fully funded scholarship. It is granted for a maximum period of 12 months, which can be split over 3 calendar years.
8. France OECD Future of Work Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme for International Students
Deadline: September 14th
The new OECD Future of Work Fellowship scheme is now available on offer for students of all nationalities. It aims to promote new and innovative (post-) doctoral research in the fields of economics, statistics, sociology, and other related social sciences which provide better evidence to help policymakers across OECD countries respond to labor issues.
Each Fellow will be awarded a bursary of €5,000 to support their research for a maximum period of 12 months; €1,500 will be paid up front at the start of the fellowship and the remainder upon successful completion of the research project.
In addition, the OECD will finance the cost of one economy return ticket to Paris, as well as any accommodation costs for the Fellows to come and present their work at the OECD
9. ESSCA School of Management MSc Scholarship in International Entrepreneurship
Deadline: May 31st
ESSCA School of Management is offering a dual degree Scholarship for a Master of Science in International Entrepreneurship. It is an opportunity to study in two countries, at two highly prestigious institutions. ESSCA offers a limited number of partial and total scholarships for students from outside France.
10. Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowships, the University of Strasbourg in France
Deadline: September 12th
Applications are invited for Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowships at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Strasbourg in France. This action is for experienced researchers from across the world. The grant is awarded to the host organization, usually a university, research center or a company in Europe.
The grant provides an allowance to cover living, travel and family costs. In addition, the EU contributes to the training, networking, and research costs of the fellow, as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project.
11. PSL University Interdisciplinary Scholarship in Life Sciences
Deadline: April 15th
for quantitative biology is awarding the Interdisciplinary Master Scholarship in Life Sciences of PSL University. International and French students are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
The Q-Life Institute of PSL for quantitative biology offers competitive Master’s scholarships (€10,000/year) to follow year 1 and /or year 2 of the Interdisciplinary Master in Life Sciences (IMaLiS)
12. PERSYVAL-Lab Scholarships at University Grenoble Alpes in France
Deadline: May 22nd
The University Grenoble Alpes is inviting PERSYVAL-Lab Scholarships for master’s degree /for Ph.D. thesis related to mathematics, applied mathematics, informatics, signal processing, and automatics. International students are eligible to apply for these grants.
A grant worth €8000 is awarded to support excellent students whose income is insufficient to cover living expenses and who wish to obtain a master’s degree and then to apply to a doctoral program within one of the laboratories associated with PERSYVAL-Lab.
13. Doctoral Scholarships at Université Côte d’Azur in France
Deadline: March 11th
Université Côte d’Azur is delighted to offer up to five fully-funded Ph.D. fellowships open to researchers worldwide. The Doctoral Program of Excellence offers fellowships consisting of an annual service-free contract with a gross salary of €2500 per month, guaranteed for a maximum duration of three years.
In addition, it comes with the support of up to €1500 per year to defray the costs of participation in international conferences or workshops.
14. France University Grenoble Alpes IDEX Master Scholarships

The Initiative d’excellence (IDEX in short) University Grenoble Alpes is proud to offer master scholarships for international students. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic record and their material situation.
These scholarships will cover the amount of the scholarship is €8000 per academic year for master 1. For master 2, as the second semester is devoted to the final master thesis (funded internship) the amount of the scholarship is €5000.
15. France ISAE-SUPAERO Master of Science Scholarships
Deadline: February 16th
ISAE-SUPAERO is awarding numerous scholarships for international students to pursue master’s degree programs each year. Each recipient will receive €17,500 at the beginning of the first year of the master’s. They will receive €17,500 at the beginning of the second year except if they have to repeat the first year, if they are excluded or if they renounce to the Ph.D. track.
