Nsit People’s Grammar School 1962-2015.
ABSTRACT
This study examined the establishment of Nsit People’s Grammar School, the needs and neglects of Nsit People that led to its establishment, its impact on the society as well as the challenges faced by the administration.
The study relied significantly on oral evidence corroborating it with few secondary sources of evidence. The covering law approach was used in the movement from evidence to statement.

INTRODUCTION
The importance of education to the growth and development of any given society cannot be undermined or over-emphasized. Education plays a key role in the socio-economic and political development of any given nation, state or community. It is the foundation of all economic and social development. Education is considered as sine qua non for all development programmes.
Education as an institution, comprises that segment of basic structure of the society which meets the educational needs of the society through the transmission of social heritage, new ideas and skills.
The Ibibio leaders by the late 1920’s had realised that the colonial administration had come to stay and that for the purpose of effecting a change in the new order, western education must be acquired so as to manipulate the new order. With this goal in mind, the Ibibio State Union encouraged education at all levels – primary, secondary and tertiary.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Although Nsit People’s Grammar School was a late addition to colonial education in the Lower Cross River Region, it stood out as one of the significant educational institution of the Ibibio people in the light of the necessity of western education.
Unlike other schools that were established by the initiative of the Ibibio community and Ibibio progressive unions, Nsit People’s Grammar School was established by the initiative of one man – Bishop D. J. Umondak. However, over time the school changed from a private institution to a government owned institution.
The structural development of the school and as well as the changes in the face of societal regulations demanded administrative excellence and community cooperation which appeared scarce.
