According to FLSA, the minimum age of employment must be 14 years old for jobs that do not include agricultural work or machine-moving skills. The FLSA also neglects the employment of minors in jobs that are assumed as hazardous by the department.
Although these are federal laws, each state still has its own regulations on employment for minors. When there is a clash of both the FLSA law and the state law, the law that best protects the child is used.
Working Hours for 15 Years Old
The FLSA includes the minimum number of working hours for minors under the age of 16. This law states that “youths 14 and 15 years old may work outside school hours in various non-manufacturing, non-mining, non-hazardous jobs under certain conditions.”
Relative to this, all places that hire at 15 must ensure that they abide by these regulations to avoid the consequences that would emerge.
Thus, the permitted working hours for minors under the age of 16 as directed by the FLSA are:
School Hours
➛ 3 hours on a school day
➛ 18 hours in a school week
Non-School Hours
➛ 8 hours on a non-school day
➛ 40 hours in a non-school week; and must be between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., except from June 1 through Labor Day, when nighttime work hours are extended to 9 p.m.

How Much Pay Should 14- and 15-year-olds Expect?
The standard minimum income or wage set by The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is $7.25 per hour. This rule applies to all states to abide by.
However, for employees less than 20 years of age, the minimum wage set by The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is $4.25 per hour during their first 90 consecutive calendar days of employment with an employer.
When the employee gets to 20 years of age or after 90 days of employment, the worker must receive the minimum wage.
Keep in mind that they do not limit this to your first employer. Anytime you have to change employers while still under the age of 20, you will still receive the minimum wage- $4.25 per hour.
Some states have their own minimum wage laws different from FLSA and, sometimes, higher. So, just like in working hours, when the FLSA laws and the state laws overlap, a higher standard applies.
Certain full-time students, apprentices, student learners, and workers with disabilities or who are less privileged may be paid less than the minimum wage under special certificates from the Secretary of Labor. They commonly referred this to as the sub-minimum wage.
