About the Scholarship
The Kader Asmal Fellowship Program is a fully funded scholarship opportunity offered to South African students to study at Master’s level in Ireland’s world-renowned Higher Education Institutions.
This flagship program of the Embassy of Ireland in South Africa is part of the broader Ireland-Africa Fellows Program offered by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Kader Asmal Fellowship Program is targeted at early career professionals in South Africa, with leadership potential.
The scholarship broadly supports leadership for the Sustainable Development Goals, and supporting the development of women’s leadership capacity and women’s participation in STEM are key priorities.
Aim and Benefits of Kader Asmal Program
The Kader Asmal Fellowships will cover:
1. University application fees.
2. Tuition fees.
3. Examination and other fees.
4. Economy travel to and from your country of residence to Ireland;
5. Settling in allowance, book allowance and study allowance.
6. Accommodation.
7. A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover other living expense for you only.
8. The costs of an entry clearance (student visitor visa) application.

Requirements for Canon Collins Kader Asmal Program
To be eligible for a Kader Asmal Fellowship Program beginning at, the beginning of the academic year 2022 applicants must:
1. Be a resident national of South Africa.
2. Have a minimum of two years relevant work experience (this can include internships and volunteering positions).
3. Hold an honors’ level academic qualification from an accredited and government recognized higher education institution, with a minimum grade point average of 75% – i.e. a first class honor, or second class honor, Grade 1 (in some cases a second class honor Grade 2 may be accepted).
4. Not already hold a qualification at master’s level or higher.
5. Be applying to begin a new course at master’s level in Ireland no sooner than August/September 2022.
6. Be able to show leadership abilities and aspirations, as well as commitment to the achievement of the SDGs within your own country.
7. Have identified and selected two relevant courses from the Ireland-Africa Fellows Program Directory of Eligible Courses, see course list.
8. Clearly understand the academic and English language proficiencies required for both courses chosen.
9. Must not have applied for Kader Asmal Fellowship Program on more than one previous occasion.
10. Be able to take up the Fellowship in the academic year 2023/2024.
