1. What is the function of NEITI?

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) is the national chapter of the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
 
Also, (EITI) mandated by law (The NEITI Act 2007) to promote transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s oil, gas and mining revenues.


2. What does the EITI do?

The EITI is a global coalition of governments, companies and civil society working together to improve accountability in the management of revenues from natural resources, such as oil, gas, metals and minerals.


3. How many countries are members of EITI?

There are 31 countries that are recognised as either EITI Candidate or Compliant: Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan.

4. When did Nigeria join EITI?

Nigeria joined the EITI as a candidate country in 2003 and became the first country in the world to domesticate.
 
Also, the EITI with passaging the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Act (NEITA) in 2007 (see Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, 2016 Oil and Gas Industry Audit Report.


5. What is the EITI standard?

The EITI Standard outlines the requirements applicable to countries implementing the EITI and the Articles of Association governing the EITI. The Standard comprises two chapters and 12 sections.

6. Is Canada a member of EITI?

Canada is a member of the EITI Board and chaired the Validation Committee from June 2019 to July 2020. Canada’s Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) entered force on 1 June 2015.
