Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for their Margaret McNamara Educational Grants Scholarship. It is a fully-funded scholarship for all students.

About Margaret McNamara Educational Grants

Our organization draws inspiration from Margaret McNamara, and her vision of education and gender equality. Margaret used her influence as the wife of Robert McNamara, the World Bank’s fifth President, to advocate for the recognition and inclusion of these critical elements of development programs.

Before her death, she was awarded the highest civilian distinction in the United States, the Medal of Honor, in recognition of her important contributions.

Requirements for MMEG Scholarship 

General: Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Be at least 25 years old at the time of the application deadline (see specific regional program application below);

2. Be a national of a country listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List;

3. Be enrolled at an accredited academic institution when submitting the application; and plan to be enrolled for a full academic term after the award of the grant by the Board;

4. Not be related to a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund or Inter-American Development Bank staff member or spouse;

In addition to the above criteria, an applicant must:

Already be enrolled part-time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) or full time at one of the universities listed below, AND be enrolled for the following academic year (January-December or September to May) at one of the following universities:

1. The University of the Witwatersrand,

2. University of Cape Town

3. University of Stellenbosch

4. The University of Pretoria

5. The University of the Free State

Applicants applying to eligible countries other than South Africa must already hold a study permit for South Africa.

Estimated expenses should be calculated and expressed in Rand.
