Women Surgical Residents Scholarship 2022 Application Update

Women Surgical Residents Scholarship is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA).

About the Scholarship

According to current statistics, there are barely 0.5 surgeons for every 100,000 individuals. Despite making up more than half of the population, women only make approximately 7% of the surgical workforce.

To help solve this problem, the (ACS) and the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA) have developed a scholarship program to support women in surgical residency.

Also to help them complete their training, and encourage other women in medicine to consider surgery as a profession.

The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) is non-profit making professional body that fosters postgraduate education in surgery and provides surgical training throughout the East, Central and Southern Africa region.

Benefits of Women Surgical Residents Scholarship

1. Each scholarship is worth $500.

2. The number of awards will depend on quality of applications and available funds.

Requirements for Scholarship

1. Applicants must be junior female surgical trainees enrolling in the COSECSA surgical fellowship program.

2. Applicants must be Sub-Saharan Africans.
