1. Job Title: Safeguarding Specialist

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Girl Effect Nigeria

  • Girl Effect Nigeria is our Innovation Hub, leveraging Nigeria’s strengths in digital, media and technology to pioneer products that help understand girls more deeply and reach them more effectively. We currently have three new and growing products in Nigeria and a strong ambition to build on this base and reach more girls and change the harmful social norms that hold them back.  Current products are: TEGA, GIRLS CONNECT and SPRINGSTER
  • Girl Effect’s team in Abuja includes solid expertise in gender, evidence and research to help ground the products in girl expertise and ensure we are measuring impact and understand what’s driving girl’s uptake and engagement with the products.

What You’ll Do

  • Your role is to drive the implementation of Girl Effect’s Safeguarding policy and procedures in Nigeria and ensure an effective and timely response to children who are at risk.
  • In practice this means participating in and contributing to all aspects of Girl Effect strategy and products in order to proactively identify and mitigate risks and ensure that safety measures are built in from design through to delivery.
  • By providing expert advice, capacity building and support to Girl Effect staff and partners, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that safety is at the heart of everything we do.
  • Girl Effect goes beyond child protection and covers young people till 25 years under its safeguarding policy.

Key Responsibilities
Implementation of the Safeguarding policy and procedures:

  • In collaboration with the Global Lead for Safeguarding, ensure that the Safeguarding Policy is adapted to the local context and is reviewed and updated on an annual basis
  • Work closely with staff across Girl Effect Nigeria to implement the safeguarding policy and procedures and ensure that safeguarding is prioritised across all initiatives
  • Deliver training to all Girl Effect staff on an annual basis and establish a programme of on-going capacity building for staff tailored to their specific area of work
  • Ensure all new recruits receive a safeguarding induction within their first month of employment
  • Ensure all implementing partners receive a detailed briefing on Girl Effect’s Minimum Safeguarding Requirements and ensure that a written Safeguarding Agreement is in place.
  • Complete an annual safeguarding assessment and provide a report which summaries progress, challenges and future objectives
  • Develop relationships with key government and stakeholders and other agencies and represent Girl Effect within key networks and external events focused in safeguarding and child protection.

Overseeing reporting and response procedures:

  • Ensure that there are clear reporting and response procedures at both a country level and within each initiative/product
  • Ensure that reporting procedures are clearly understood by staff, partners, contractors, visitors and by children and young people themselves. This may include providing briefings, training or developing materials for dissemination, including the development of child-friendly materials.
  • Act as the focal point for staff whenever safeguarding concerns arise and ensure staff are given appropriate advice and that the actions taken prioritise the best interest of the child
  • Ensure that safeguarding concerns are documented and regularly analysed to inform organisational learning and improve safeguarding practice.

Advise on the design and development of new products and initiatives:

  • Contribute to the design and development of new products and initiatives to ensure that risk identified and mitigated and that safeguarding measures are built in to all activities.
  • Provide advice and support to staff developing media content and distribution platforms to ensure the protection of children and young people is prioritised.
  • Work with the Evidence team to provide technical support on child protection in relation to monitoring, evaluation, learning and research initiatives.
  • Analyse the types of cases received, and the response provided on a regular basis to inform organisational learning and improve safeguarding practice
  • Conduct landscaping analyses periodically to ensure Girl Effect India is up to date on available supply side services and manage the vetting of these services.

Other:

  • Keep up to date with trends and developments in the field of child protection and safeguarding and disseminate key learning from policy, practice and research to the wider team.
  • Participate in the Global Safeguarding Task Force meetings and other practice development forums arranged by Girl Effect
  • Identify safeguarding networks if any and represent Girl Effect Nigeria in their meetings.

Who You Are

  • At least 5 years technical and practical knowledge and experience on child and young people’s safeguarding
  • University degree in Social Work, Social Sciences or related discipline. Masters degree will be an advantage
  • Experience in developing and implementing organisational child protection or safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Skilled in designing, facilitating and evaluating training in different organisational contexts.
  • Desirable – Experience in safeguarding on online (e.g. on mobile and social networks)

What You’ll Do
As Girl Effect increases the scale of its reach and impact, Girl Effect Nigeria is looking to hire a knowledgeable and experienced IT Support to assist with strategic and technical IT/ICT support within the following scope:

  • Application management
  • Network administration and desktop support
  • System administration and MS Exchange support
  • Security administration
  • We aim to improve on the efficiency and effectiveness of current IT services by leveraging on the skills and capabilities of an IT Support to enhance staff productivity, IT security, internet functionality, knowledge management and awareness as well as hardware spares management and software library support for Girl Effect Nigeria Country office
  • As the IT Support, you will lead on all IT/ICT related tasks.  Critical to your success will be ability to ensure ISP service us efficient and functioning according to SLA signed with Girl Effect Nigeria. In addition, the following are also relevant success indicators you are required to achieve;
  • IT help desk is available to staff with little or no service disruptions
  • Proactive and efficient support is available to users
  • Efficient management of Girl Effect’s IT systems and equipment ensuring settings are up to date
  • Assigned online trackers are active and regularly monitored for efficiency
  • Communication system is efficient and effective
  • Ensure that no pirated software is being used

Key Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide first level user, workstation and server support.
  • Manage overall technology infrastructure, providing professional advice on related purchases
  • Install and configure computer hardware operating systems and applications
  • Oversee system administration function to ensure smooth running of daily office operations and utilization of IT services
  • Conduct regular backup of relevant data as well as data security
  • Troubleshoot system, equipment/materials and network problems; liaise with ISPs where required.  Set up a help desk system to;
    • Diagnose hardware and software faults and
    • Solve technical and applications problems
    • Install printers, copiers, laptops and desktop computers
    • Ensure local and server based antivirus softwares are installed and track license for notification of renewal time; conduct routine scanning against threats to normal systems’ running
    • Provide user training on common business application and usage of Girl Effect’s ICT systems such as trainingnew and current employees on computer software and ICT systems.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Sustain IT culture for Email and Internet usage
  • Produce reports as may be requested by Supervisor/Management

Inter Departmental Collaborations:

  • HR unit – Support HR software application, update Girl Effect Nigeria organogram and follow up on setting up of new user email accounts and other IT requirements.
  • Procurement: Assist with online dispatch of TORs, RFQs and RFPs, update online databases
  • Inventory: Assist with online updating database for Girl Effect Nigeria’s assets and allocation/relocation of assets
  • Security: Provide support to the team on online tracking devices e.g. vehicle tracker and CCTV footage
  • Admin: Assist with efficient management of Girl Effect Nigeria’s communication system such as crediting of staff phones and functionality of Sat-phones.
  • Logistics: Assist with monitoring of online vehicle request when required
  • Program team: Provide IT support during training sessions

Who You Are

  • Have PC troubleshooting knowledge and MS SharePoint implementation user and desktop support as well as networking capacity.
  • Have working knowledge of office 365, Mac and Outlook laptops
  • Have a degree in ICT or related field with minimum of 3 years relevant professional and work experience in ICT field commensurate with above requirements
  • Have experience working with international organizations is a plus.

3. Job Title: Implementing Partner

Location: Kano

Description
Girl Effect is seeking a nimble and established partner to work in Kano State to implement and raise awareness for Girl Effect products.This partner must:

  • Have adequate ties in Kano state with relationships within communities, ministries and local government bodies.
  • Have prior experience working with vulnerable girls and boys and conducting advocacy work (in communities and state wide) for a product with purpose of influencing/ achieving a desired outcome.
  • Be active in thematic coalitions of civil society groups and NGOs
  • Have a dedicated M&E staff or program staff with basic M&E skills
  • Have a sound accounting/internal control system with dedicated finance staff
  • Be legally registered with relevant authority (ies). Registration with CAC is compulsory

Specific Tasks
Community Entry and Sensitization:

  • The partner will carry out sensitization activities, courtesy visits with community leaders, parents and other stakeholders in selected communities and local gov
    ernments and facilitate community meetings to obtain consent for Girl Effect implementation and girls’ participation.

Product Marketing and Advocacy:
The partner will conduct marketing activities for Girl Effect, this includes but is not limited to:

  • Gathering girls within the Girl Effect demographic in safe-spaces, town hall centres, youth centres etc. and marketing/demonstrating Girl Effect to them;
  • Obtaining permissions from respective officials to conduct marketing in schools, churches/mosques or community centres in selected communities and local governments;
  • Informing other NGOs/CBOs and development partners about Girl Effect and obtain their buy-in and support to use their channels/platforms to market Girl Effect;
  • Conducting community roadshows/product showcases in girl-centered safe spaces and other avenues/methods suggested by the partner
  • These activities must be conducted in places where our demography are found
  • The marketing activities will not only target girls but their gatekeepers as well. This means the partner will provide local insights on most effective and safest way to market Girl Effect to girls and their gatekeepers.

Validation Workshop:

  • Girl Effect uses a girl-centred approach to its programs and all our products are developed in partnerships with girls who are most likely to use the project through workshops. A 2-3 day workshop will be conducted for Girl Effect to validate the translation of stories that will be used on various media platforms. The partner will be responsible for:
    • Identifying/recruiting girls using an approved recruitment guide;
    • Coordinating any necessary logistics, transportation, refreshments etc;
    • Obtaining signed consent from parents / caregivers for their participation.
    • Recruitment criteria will always be shared with the partner in advance.

Facilitating Integration into Existing Girl-Focused Programs:

  • Girl Effect is designed to be a product that complements traditional girl programming
  • The partner will support the identification of relevant programs and opportunities to integrate Girl Effect into other partners’ activities and programs; for example: demonstrating the added-value of Girl Effect to organizations delivering girl safe spaces and/or clubs.

Facilitating Girl Effect-led Activities/Partnerships:

  • The partner will coordinate meetings between Girl Effect, girls and their gatekeepers for project testing, evaluations or press trips; ensuring that signed consent is received from girls, parents/caregivers before each contact
  • The partner will also identify/facilitate partnerships with key stakeholders such as ministries and local government bodies as applicable to Girl Effect.
