ADVANTAGES / MERITS AND DISADVANTAGES / DEMERITS OF MICRO-TEACHING

ADVANTAGES

i.    It enables a beginning or a student-teacher to learn and emphasize only a skill at a time.

ii.     It is the surest way for the preparation of effective teaches.

iii.   Objectives of micro-teaching lessons are specifically stated in behavioural terms

iv.   It enables a beginning teacher learn the skills required in the art of teaching

v.      It enables a student-teacher learn the skill of class management and control.

vi.   It provides immediate objective and harmless feedback from the replayed video tape, from the supervisor and from the students.

vii. Micro-teaching environment is usually accommodating, conductive to teaching and learning and less threatening.

viii.          It provides an excellent opportunity to learn the art of macro-teaching and to do teaching practice and practical teaching effectively.

ix.   It provides the supervisor well defined and well specified role.

x.      It enables a beginning teacher gain experience for positive classroom interaction.

xi.   It provides valuable method of imparting teaching skills in a very simplified and methodical manner.

It is pertinent to say that we should embrace fully and with a deeper commitment the micro-teaching technique if we are to successes in achieving effective teacher development. 

DISADVANTAGE

It rarely covers in one practice all the range of skills required in a normal lesson. Advantages of micro- teaching outweigh the disadvantage by about 90%.
