BIO-SECURITY MEASURE CARRIED OUT IN POULTRY UNIT


These refer to all necessary precaution that could be carried out to ensure safety of birds, environment, workers and the final consumers. It is important to know that this bio-security starts from planning stage to the production level.

Measures for safety workers                  

i.       hand gloves are used when carrying dead birds

ii.      Boots are provided to the workers

iii.    Nose mask are also used

iv.     They should not visit other flocks  

Measures for safety of birds

(i)          Feed and water are given to the birds at regular intervals

(ii)       Clearing of bushes around the poultry house

(iii)     The brooding house is disinfected and allow to rest 2-3 weeks before re-stocking

(iv)     The medication and vaccination program are strictly followed.

(v)        The farm post modern and incinerate all dead birds

(vi)     They avoid wet litters

(vii)   They avoid over crowding

Measure for safety of feeds       

(i)          They are present at the feed mill to be sure that the feed ingredient are properly weight and mixed.

(ii)       They avoid use of mouldy feed ingredients.

(iii)     Feed are bought from reputable source

(iv)     They avoid the use of adulterated feed.

Measures for safety of Environment   

(i)          Litter are burnt some meters away from the poultry house

(ii)       Dead birds are not thrown into the bush.

(iii)     Changing of litters at regular time is ensured.

Factors affecting poultry Production    

Temperature, air quality, humidity and light are critical factors to consider failure to provide the adequate environment during the brooding period will reduce profitability resulting in reduced growth and development, poorer feed conversion, and increased disease and mortality.
