Nursing as profession, came into existence as early as human existence. It is the foremost caring profession, it is rested, savored and consolidated its position through the ages by developing her own language, rituals, arts and sciences from physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients. Modern scientific nursing started the crusading effort of miss Florence nightingale (1820-1910) during and after the Crimean War (1854-1856).
Since, as an organization that is growing, trying to meet up as profession, there are
various challenges impeding the development of nursing in Nigeria such as: politics, lack of in interest in research, nursing themselves etc
Notwithstanding, the challenges are there as stimulant to make us face them to enable us attain for full profession. This is the reason for this presentation
Objectives
– To discuss the concept of nursing in Nigeria
– To highlight the challenges facing nursing practice in Nigeria
– To explain its implication to professional development.
