ROLE OF MAGGOT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE

            The role of maggot in the development of agriculture cannot be over emphasized. Below are most of the contributions of maggot to the development of agriculture as reported by Songhai centre (Nzamujo, 1999).

i)                    Maggot provides a source of nutrient fish, poultry and other livestock.

ii)                  It provides fertilizer for crop production. Maggot serves as a source of nutrient to plants for growth and efficient production.

iii)                It encourages the fertility of soil for greater productivity

iv)                It helps in the protection of the environment as waste are

Concentrated and decomposed. Waste from poultry, swine etc. are collected, processed, treated and

consigned in such a way that

               It will be harmless to the environment.

v)                  The technology for maggot production is simple and cost effective for        farmers. This offers farmers the opportunity   to effectively engage in     production as the technology for maggot production is cheap and affordable.

vi)  It encourages greater output with little or input.

vii)     Maggot and its bio-products serve as an income to the farmer.

      It is worthy of note that maggot play a productive and economic role in the development of not only agriculture, but in other related sectors which brings about growth and stability in the economy.
