Mercy Corps Nigeria’s humanitarian program aims to provide assistance to populations affected by the crisis in Northeast Nigeria.

With funding from humanitarian donors including OFDA, FFP, and ECHO the humanitarian programs engage in several interventions including but not limited to food assistance, logistics and relief commodities, protection, livelihoods, WASH, and capacity building of humanitarian response actors.

Mercy plans to scale up and expand its humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria to reach more beneficiaries with additional and varied assistance in a wider geographic area.

Mercy Corps plans to implement a program in 2 states “ISING” or Investing in the safety and integrity of Nigerian girls targeting adolescent girls and boys affected by the conflict in the Northeast.

Mercy Corps is recruiting to fill the vacant job positions below:

1. Job Title: Borno Agricultural Development Initiative (BADI) Intern

Location: Biu, Borno

Length of Internship: 12 months

Project Description

1. Borno Agricultural Development Initiative (BADI) is one of 3 projects that make up Mercy Corps Markets, Agricultural Livelihood and Livestock (MALL) Programme.
2. The specific goal of the BADI Project is to introduce food insecure communities to sustainable, context-appropriate, smart agricultural practices and to catalyse the market for seeds and other agricultural markets in Borno State.

Intern Responsibilities

1. Support program team in BADI project management and administration.
2. Support the program Assistant in ensuring that the BADI program works according to plan.
3. Assist and support the program team in mobilization and sensitization of community members.
4. Support in conducting registration and training to SHF and VAs.
5. Work with the program officer in the facilitation of community meetings and engagement.
6. Support the team in raising PRs and another Procurement process.
7. Support program team in program file update, as well as other duties, assign.

Learning Objectives – At the end of the internship period, the intern should have acquired the following skills and knowledge:

Learning goals:

1. Develop a working knowledge of program intervention.
2. Understand the process of program filling tree
3. Attend training and workshop on VSLA methodology.
4. Have better knowledge of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP)
5. Increase knowledge on Farmers Business School (FBS)
6. Increase knowledge on permaculture, sack/backyard gardening and hydroponics
7. Develop competencies on program implementation and management
8. Increase knowledge on extension services
