General Entry Instructions

Every visitor wishing to visit the country must possess a visitor, tourism, student or business or entry visa stating your purpose of visit.

How to Apply for PNG VISA?

2. Attach one passport size photograph (for APEC Business Applications and Permanent Resident Application please provide two photos)

3. Pay the required fee

4. Provide any other documentary information as requested (refer to the appropriate entry category)

5. Send or deliver your application to the nearest diplomatic mission together with your valid passport.

Note: passports are valid 6 months from the time of travel (date of departure from PNG back to the country of origin). Agents are not permitted to sign on behalf of applicants.

Where to Apply?

All application forms, passport and supporting documents should be lodged at Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship section in Port Moresby or any Papua New Guinea Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.

Applications must be submitted at Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Section before the expiry date of the current Entry Permit which is usually six months from date of issue.

For more clarification, all tourists, are expected to lodge their visa to the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Division at least 2 months to the departure date.

Where to Pay the Application Fees

Applicants can pay the required fee at:

• Any PNG Diplomatic mission in your country of residence (if available) or

• Mail required fees together with an application to the nearest Papua New Guinea diplomatic mission within your region

If the application is lodged at an Australian mission representing the Papua New Guinea Government, the application fee will be collected on arrival in Papua New Guinea.

Entry and Re-Entry Requirements

In accordance with Migration Regulation 1979, the holder of an Entry Permit must enter Papua New Guinea within Six months of the Entry Permit being issued.

Failure to enter Papua New Guinea within Six months will render the Entry Permit invalid, and as a result, the further application will have to be made.

As a matter of policy, existing Entry Permit holders (excluding Permanent Resident Entry Permit Holders) must not be absent from Papua New Guinea for any period exceeding six months.

Entry Permit holders that are absent from Papua New Guinea for six months or more will need to make a further application for an Entry Permit before seeking to return to Papua New Guinea.

In such cases, new health and character checks will be required.

Extension of Entry Permits

Applications for extension of stay must be lodged well in advance of the expiry of the current Entry Permit. For specific requirements, please refer to the appropriate Entry Permit category.

Extensions are only issued to people currently in Papua New Guinea. Extensions cannot be granted while a person is outside the country.

Applicants should be aware that there is NO period of grace in relation to the extension.

Re-evidencing of Entry Permits

Passports must be valid for six months or more to enable re-evidencing. Entry Permits will only be issued for the period of validity of the passport.

Where the validity of the Entry Permit extends beyond the validity of the passport, a new Entry Permit will be evidenced once a new passport has been obtained.

When an applicant obtains a new passport, a new Entry Permit will be issued for the balance of the period of stay free of charge.

Applicants will be required to complete an application form and provide a copy of the original work permit approval (if applicable).

Where an Entry Permit holder is outside PNG, re-evidencing can be undertaken by the nearest Papua New Guinea Mission.

The missions must obtain approval from Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Section in Waigani before re-evidencing can occur.

Visitors or business persons wishing to enter PNG from ports other than the above must have a valid Entry Permit before entering PNG.

Passengers Transition in PNG

By Air
If you are transiting from the arrival hall and go straight to the departure lounge, you do not pay any fees, but if you leave the terminal then you will be required to pay K100.00.

From Cruise Ships
Passengers coming out of cruise ships must have a seaman pass. If you do not have this pass then you will be required to pay K100.00.

ntry permits may be canceled by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration (DFAI) in accordance with Section 6 of the Migration Act 1978.

Grounds for Entry Permit cancellation include:

• The Entry Permit was issued in error.

• The Entry Permit holder has committed a criminal offense, whether or not that person has been convicted by a court of law.

• The Entry Permit holder has an association with another person who is reasonably suspected of being involved in criminal conduct.

• The Entry Permit holder is suffering from a disease that presents a danger to the community.

• The Entry Permit holder has breached the conditions of the Entry Permit – for example working unlawfully.

• The Entry Permit holder is engaging in illegal business activities.

• The Entry Permit holder does not have the financial means to support themselves.

• The Entry Permit holder’s presence in Papua New Guinea is considered to be a risk to Papua New Guinea’s national security (e.g. Terrorist Suspects).

In the event an Entry Permit is canceled, written notification will be provided to the Entry Permit Holder at their last known address. In such cases, the Former Entry Permit Holder will be given a specified time in which to depart PNG.

If the Former Entry Permit Holder fails to depart voluntarily, they may be subject to detention and removal in accordance with Section 13 of the Migration Act.

NOTE: If there is no PNG diplomatic mission in your country of residence, contact the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Division in Papua New Guinea or the nearest Papua New Guinea diplomatic mission in your region.
