Historical Perspective

NECO came on board during the administration of Adulsalami Abubakar the then head of state of Nigeria in 1999. NECO was created with a true sole motive to offer subsidized registration of exams to candidates in Nigeria.

This body came on board and took over the responsibilities of the then National Board of Education Measurement (NBEM).  The first Exams conducted by NECO took place in 2000.

This is the step-by-step guide on how to register for NECO GCE 2022. It contains the registration guidelines and instructions for candidates who intend to register for the exam.

Please note that the Senior School Certificate Examination (external) is majorly for private candidates not in the School system.

How to Register for NECO

Before registering for NECO, candidates are advised to note that: the exam’s body will not refund the registration fee when once paid. However, candidates are advised to use a good cyber cafés as registration errors is detrimental to the candidates.

With the emergence of an e-society, NECO has since migrated from offline to online registration. To register, candidates are to visit the NECO website at and complete the registration process.

The current passport of the candidate will be required during the registration process. Couple with the registration, a biometric fingerprint will be captured. Any candidate without a verified fingerprint may not take part in the exams.

N/B: NECO Registration is done with a non-refundable  fee of  9,850.00 (Both Internal & External)

To register for the NECO examination, candidates are to get a draft and pay a non-refundable fee of Nine Thousand, eight hundred and fifty Naira Only (N9,850.00) paid via bank draft or to school management if internal registration. The payment can be done in any NECO office, bank, and Nipost offices nationwide. The registration fee covers:

➢ A CD on exams ethnics

➢ Cost for biometric data and capture

➢ As well as the administrative charges

All interested candidates who wish to write the 2022 SSCE (Internal) are notified! that the 2022 NECO Registration form is out. The Registration for NECO 2022 will probably begin in March and Neco Exams would commence from August 2022.

When is the Closing Date for 2022 the NECO Registration?

According to the recent updates from the official website of NECO, the closing date for the 2022 NECO Registration is yet unknown since the registration has not begun.

However, NECO offers about seventy-six subjects which are grouped into 6 sections; Science and Mathematics, Compulsory Cross-Cutting Core Subjects, Technology, Business Studies, Trade/Entrepreneurship, and Humanities.

Note that only candidates in their final year of Senior Secondary School are eligible for registration. The 2022 June/July SSCE is meant for only school-based candidates in Nigeria and overseas. It is not meant for private candidates.
