And as such, I have put together a list of the 10 best scholarships abroad to study in any field of your choice. They include:
Want to study abroad in one of the world’s best student cities? This year, the top 10 cities in the Best Student Cities ranking are China, Australia, UK, Switzaland, France, Hong Kong, South Korea, etc.
If you’re hoping to study in any of these cities, but need funding to do so, look no further. Below is a select list of scholarships for international students in each of these cities, in order (1-10) of how they ranked this year.
1. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships (Canada)
Deadline: December 7th
Every year, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation awards up to fifteen doctoral scholarships to Canadian and foreign doctoral candidates pursuing research related to humanities and social sciences. The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarships provide $40,000 per year for three years, $20,000 per year for three years (as research and travel allowance) and an opportunity for a fourth year.
2. Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development (Any Country)
Deadline: Ongoing
The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship funding through the Rotary Foundation Global Grants. The scholarships funds graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years.
The minimum budget for a global grant scholarship is $30,000 which can fund passport/visa, inoculations, travel expenses, school supplies, tuition, room and board, household supplies, and language training courses.
3. Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University (China)
Deadline: September 26th
Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century. The program will give the world’s best and brightest students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
The selected students will receive a comprehensive scholarship that will include tuition and fees, room and board, travel expenses, books and supplies, health insurance, and a personal stipend of $4,000.
4. Scholarships to study in
Hong Kong (SAR) is up two places in this year’s Best Student Cities, now sharing joint 10th place with fellow Asian megacity Seoul.
- HKSAR Government Scholarships Fund – Government scholarships for local and non-local students to gain funding to study in Hong Kong at selected institutions, such as the Belt and Road Scholarship for outstanding students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam (it will be expanded in phases to students from other Belt and Road countries).
5. Gates Cambridge Scholarships for International Students (UK)
Deadline: December 5th
Gates Cambridge Scholarships are one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
The scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge including tuition fees, maintenance allowance, travel costs, etc. It also provides additional, discretionary funding such as academic development funding, family allowance, fieldwork, etc.
6. Scholarships to study in ,
Seoul, one of Asia’s most exciting student cities, shares joint 10th place with Hong Kong (SAR) this year. Seoul is home to 18 institutions ranked within the as well as a large community of international students. See below for funding opportunities.
General scholarships for South Korea:
- KFAS International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF) – 50 graduate scholarships for students from Asia to study in South Korea at leading institutions.
- Korean Government Scholarship Program – Master’s and PhD scholarships for international students undertaking study in South Korea.
7. Eiffel Scholarships in France for International Students (France)
Deadline: January 11th
The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education institutions to attract top foreign students to enroll in their masters and Ph.D. programs.
For Master’s level studies, the Eiffel scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,181, awarded for 12-36 months. For Ph.D. level studies, the Eiffel scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,400 and is awarded for a maximum of 12 months.
In addition, the program meets various expenses including international return trip, national and local transport, health insurance, and cultural activities.
8. Endeavour Postgraduate Leadership Award (Australia)
Deadline: November 15th
The Endeavour Postgraduate Leadership Award provides financial support for international applicants to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or Ph.D. level either by coursework or research in any field in Australia for up to 2 years for Masters and 4 years for Ph.D.
All successful Individual short and long term Endeavour Leaders will receive AU$3,000 per month as a stipend, travel allowance of up to AU$3,000, establishment allowance of between AU$2,000 and AU$4,000, health insurance, and travel insurance.

9. British Chevening Scholarships for International Students
Deadline: November 6th
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship program, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations. The program offers awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study for a master’s degree in any subject at any UK university.
The scholarship usually covers university tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants and allowances to cover essential expenditure.

Ranked eighth in the Best Student Cities index is Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, which hosts some of the highest-ranked universities in Switzerland, including , the sixth best university in the world.
