Fellowships will support community journalists with grants, capacity building, and tools to produce data-driven investigative stories on issues affecting communities across the country.

  • A Data Journalism Bootcamp will provide training on advanced investigative, data storytelling and mapping techniques to the fellows. Additionally, journalists will learn how to source, analyze and visualize data in an engaging and compelling manner.
  • Each fellow will receive a grant to support their research.
  • As well as mentoring from mentors, fellows will gain access to the entire ADH community and improve their journalistic skills.
  • During the fellowship, the fellows will receive editorial and technical support, including data research and analysis, data visualizations, infographics, and mapping.

Eligibility Criteria

The following requirements must be met in order to apply for the ADH Community Journalism Fellowship (ACJF):

  1. Nigerian journalists must apply.
  2. Due to the limited number of grants available, the first 10 – 20 pitches will stand the best chance of being considered. The deadline for pitching stories is 21 July to 4 August 2022.
  3. We are looking for pitches that fit our theme.
  4. All types of media organizations – international, national, local, and community-based – are encouraged to submit pitches.

Application Procedures

To apply for ADH Community Journalism Fellowship (ACJF), applicants should click the Apply online now button. The following information is also required:

  1. 250 words is the maximum length for all pitches.
  2. During your pitch, you should emphasize the key issue you would like to focus on, why it is important to the program, and the extent to which it is under-reported.
  3. Stories should be pitched in communities in the states where the applicants reside.
  4. Participants are expected to attend the 3-day Data Journalism Bootcamp online. Confirmed dates to follow.
  5. Please explain why you are the right person to report it and what access you already have.
  6. Your story should be accompanied by a letter or email from an editor interested in publishing it.
