About the University
The origins of Carleton University as a non-denominational college, funded in part by charity contributions from the Ottawa community, set it apart from other colleges in Ontario.
Carleton University was established in 1942 in response to the need to give young people in Ottawa, many of whom had taken up employment to deal with the Depression’s demands, the chance to continue their formal education.
The prize was established in 2005 by Richard J. Van Loon’s friends, family, and coworkers in his honor as the 10th President of Carleton.

1. You must be a citizen of an African country.
2. You must be an international student, who is required to have a valid Study Permit for Canada.
3. You must be registered as a full-time student at Carleton University and be successfully proceeding from one year to another in any program of study.
4. You must be in good academic standing.
