Electronic Office Skills Required By Business Education Students In Universities.

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to identify the electronic office skills required by business education students in universities in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. Five research questions were developed and answered in line with what the study sought out to find.

Five null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance and 196 degrees of freedom. In carrying out the study, relevant literature was reviewed to guide the study.

The researcher employed a  survey research design that made use of a structured questionnaire. A structured questionnaire of 50  items was developed for collecting data from the respondents.

The population was 251 comprising 223 students and 28 lecturers. Three experts validated the questionnaire. The reliability was determined using the Cronbach alpha coefficient and the reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.88.

The questionnaire was administered on 251 respondents and all the copies of the questionnaire were retrieved and analyzed. The analysis of mean and standard deviation was used for answering the research questions and t-test was used for testing the hypotheses.

INTRODUCTION

The world we live in today is driven by information and knowledge made possible by breakthroughs in science and technology. Knowledge and information have received more than ever before, increasing emphasis and recognition all over the world.

Teferra (2004) stated that the level and extent of scientific and technological discoveries have become a measuring index upon which the social, economic and political vigour of a particular country or region is gauged.

Jeremy and Shelly (2004) asserted that the world is passing through a  lot of changes virtually in every field of human endeavour.

These changes are conspicuous in science and technology. Similarly, Oyesode (2006) stated that the change in technology most especially automate equipment has great effects on the operations of an office.

Business operations are also getting more complex and sophisticated. With the invention of electronic gadgets employed in almost every stage of business operations, communication, finance, administration,

manufacturing and engineering have all experienced great changes. Oyesode further stated that in the automobile industry computers are used to design car model, manufacture and assemble the component parts.

There are packages and programmes that provide and suit architect with a variety of house plans requiring little or no adjustments to his taste or purposes.
