Dr. Susan Lim Endowment for Education and Research Ltd is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students into their Dr. Susan Lim Scholarship in Medicine for students. It is a partially funded scholarship for all students.

About Dr. Susan Lim Scholarship in Medicine

Dr. Susan Lim is a world-renowned clinical transplant surgeon who has received many awards throughout her long medical career. Dr. Lim studied medicine at Monash University and graduated with honours in 1979 as a Colombo Plan Scholar.

The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, awarded her the G.B. Ong Gold Medal Surgery (1984) and the Gulbenkian Scholarship, Churchill College, to pursue a Ph.D. in Transplantation Immunology at the University of Cambridge, UK, in 1985.

She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the American College of Surgeons. She is also a Fellow of Trinity College, University of Melbourne, and has received an Honorary Doctorate from Newcastle University.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be enrolled in 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th year of the Joint Medical Program with the University of Newcastle.

2. Be enrolled full-time.

3. Show satisfactory progression through your degree with no failed units.

4. Show the impact of personal circumstances such as caregiver, lone parent, financial difficulties, English language problem, Indigenous Australians, long-term medical condition or abuse consequences, handicap, refugee status, regional/remote disadvantage.

5. Not have previously completed an Australian undergraduate degree program.

6. Not be the recipient of the another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required Documentation

1. If documentation is not provided, your application will not be processed. Please have all required documents available for upload as PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, or JPG files prior to completing the online application process.

2. A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you.

3. You may be required to provide documents to support your disadvantage claims. These will be identified when you apply based on your individual application responses.

Benefit

The scholarship provides a total benefit of $7,500, paid as sums of $3,500 and $4,000 following semester 1 and semester 2 census dates.

Selection

The scholarship application and any required supporting documents will be as part of the selection process. Your academic success during your degree will be considered.
