A Glance of History
The school opened in the year 2002 in Korea town. In its first year, it had nearly 120 students. The school opened with the sixth grade and planned to segment in one new grade each year, with high school expansion coming much later.
The school originally rented space from the Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Roger Lowenstein, a onetime criminal defense attorney, founded the school.
The school was founded to academically organize students and to orient them as community activists and reflects Lowenstein’s open-minded views.
Developers of the school passed out fliers at bus stops. Lowenstein said that the novel school did not have trouble finding new students since the local public middle schools were congested with students and parents wanted a harmless environment for their children.

Being Civic: to build a cadre of young leaders taking action to advance their visions for a just and humane world.
Academic program/ Student body
The school has a low dropout rate. Lowenstein said, “We do not let a kid fail.” As of the year 2013, three-quarters of the graduating students attend four-year colleges and universities, while the rests join community colleges.
As of the year 2013, the majority of the students were Latino and Hispanic, with some being Asian, Black, and White. The students are low income and are registered in a free and abridged lunch program. During the same year, the middle school had only 280 students and the high school had only 260 students.

Admission Requirements Los Angeles Leadership Academy
The Charter School will admit all pupils who desire to attend the Charter School. No test or assessment will be administered to students proceeding to acceptance and enrollment into the Charter School.
The Charter School will comply with all laws establishing minimum and maximum age for public school attendance in charter schools.
Admission, except in the case of a public random drawing, shall not be determined by the place of residence of the pupil or his or her parent or legal guardian within the state.
The Charter School shall require students who wish to attend the Charter School to complete intent to enroll form. After admission, you will be required to submit an enrollment packet, which will include the following:
- Student enrollment form
- Proof of Immunization
- Home Language Survey
- Completion of Emergency Medical Information Form
- Proof of minimum age requirements, e.g. birth certificate
- Release of records
Be informed also that no test or assessment shall be administered to students prior to acceptance and enrollment into the Charter School. The Charter School will comply with all laws establishing minimum and maximum age for public school attendance in charter schools.
Admission, except in the situation of a public random drawing, will not be determined by the place of residence of the pupil or his or her parent or lawful guardian inside the state.

How to Apply
Step 1: Visit the official website of the school, and on the left side of the screen click “enrollment online and procedures”
Step 2: Now it opens, you then click on the first option i.e. “Intent Form”
Step 3: You now have the entire form displayed to you in a PDF format, print it to have a hard copy of it.
You have to note also that the form comes in two sections
- Intent to enroll (If you are a fresh student)
- Intent to return (if you left the school and wish to return back)
Ones you have filled the form completely, you have to go with it to the school for final assessment.
