The Emergency Funding for International Students is able to assist international students in need of financial help. This page will provide you with further information about the fund and how to apply.

A. International Student Emergency Fund (University at Buffalo)

The Office of International Education and the rest of the UB community want to make sure that international students, no matter where they’re from, get the financial support they need in times of crisis or disaster.

About the Fund

Over 4,500 international students from all over the world attend the University at Buffalo.

The presence of these students on campus and in the classroom contributes to a diverse and inclusive educational experience that benefits all students and helps them prepare for an increasingly global world.

The Office of International Education and the rest of the UB community want to make sure that international students, no matter where they’re from, get the financial support they need in times of crisis or disaster.

The International Student Emergency Fund helps international students who are facing financial difficulties.

i. Medical emergencies or natural disasters impacting the student or student’s immediate family,

ii. Victim of a crime or accident,

iii. Loss of property or income,

iv. Unanticipated educational expenses (beyond tuition or university fees)

Eligibility Criteria & Application Process

In order to be eligible for this funding a student must:

1. Must show financial need because of unforeseen circumstances.

2. All other resources, including emergency loans, must have been considered and are insufficient, unavailable, or not available in a timely manner.

3. Must be a degree-seeking UB student in good academic standing.

5. Applicants must complete an online application form.

To apply, currently, no supplemental application is needed if you have completed the General Application. You will be automatically considered based on your completed General Application.

Expenses covered by the emergency fund include (but not limited to):

i. Utilities

ii. Off-campus rent

iii. Transportation

iv.Food

v. Medical care

vi.Child care

Award Amount & Deadline

The award amount is based on a review of your application materials. The amount of financial help given is usually not more than $500 (USD) and can only be given once each calendar year.

 Awards are made based on the money available and the quality of the application. Once an application is complete, it is assessed on a rolling basis.

B) International Student Emergency Fund NDSU

The Office of International Student & Study Abroad Services administers the International Student Emergency Fund, which provides emergency aid to NDSU international students.

It usually comes as a one-time award of up to $500.

Award decisions will be made based on each applicant’s individual situation. Amounts awarded are subject to the availability of funds and an applicant may not receive the total amount requested.

In order to be eligible for this funding, you must:

1. Demonstrate financial need because of an unforeseen circumstance

2. Should be a degree-seeking student in good academic standing

3. Be enrolled full time

4. Hold and maintain a valid F-1 or J-1 student visa

5. Have completed at least 2 semesters of study at NDSU

Please note: this fund CANNOT be used to pay for tuition, fees, or health insurance.

C) International Student Emergency Fund Michigan Tech

This fund was established by alumni and friends of the University to assist international students who may face unexpected hardships as a student. 

These situations can be especially challenging when they are far from home. This fund was established to provide some relief.

What is Considered to Be a Financial Emergency?

1. Students affected by COVID-19

2. The death of an immediate family member

3. An immediate family member is ill and requires your assistance

4. An illness that requires immediate medical care and/or medication

5. A personal injury or accident

6. Victim of a crime

7. Other emergency situation (fire, flood, etc.)

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

• Should be an international student

• Must be a registered Michigan Tech undergraduate or graduate student at the time the application is submitted (applicant may be a part-time student)

• Should face an emergency (as described above)

• Should show financial need

• Must be committed to using funds as designated

What is the Award Amount?

The award amount is based on a review of your application materials by a committee, including the dean of students (or the dean’s designee) and a representative from the Financial Aid Office.

The amount of financial help awarded rarely exceeds $500.00 and can be awarded only once in a calendar year. 

During the outbreak of COVID-19, other award amounts may be considered on a case-by-case basis

D) International Student Emergency Fund Gonzago University

Overview 

The International Student Emergency Fund application is available to currently enrolled International Gonzaga students who are experiencing a one-time unexpected financial emergency. 

Eligibility Requirements 

• Enrolled full-time

• Studying on a F-1 student visa and in full compliance with all F-1 visa regulations

• Experiencing an unexpected one-time financial emergency that can be documented

E) International Student Application for Emergency Funding (COVID-19)

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in financial challenges for many members of the IUPUI community. The Office of International Affairs is committed to supporting international studentswho are facing financial hardship.

You may be eligible for the International Student Emergency Fund if you are struggling with basic essentials like food, accommodation, or technology needed for ongoing study because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of awards is limited, and they may come as grants (scholarships), educational loans, or a combination of both.

Eligibility Requirements

Provided you are an F-1 or J-1 visa holder who is an IUPUI graduate or undergraduate student, you may apply for grant or loan aid if you meet the following criteria:

• Should be able to document unexpected financial challenges because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This financial need must have developed after starting your academic program. (You must have had sufficient funding when starting your program, as showed in your financial documentation.)

• Must currently enrol in a degree program. (Please note that we cannot consider students in certificate programs.)

• Maintaining legal F-1 or J-1 student visa status and enrolled at least 1/2 time.

• Assessed IUPUI tuition at the non-resident student rate.

F) International Student Emergency Fund Stockton University

If you are experiencing financial impacts due to COVID-19 and needing help, you can apply to this International Student Emergency Fund from the Office of Global Engagement.

This fund was established with donations from generous donors and friends of the University and the support of the Stockton Foundation Program.

The goal is to provide some supports to our international students during times of emergency.

Eligibility Criteria

This emergency fund is exclusively for international students at Stockton University. The eligibility requirements are listed below:

• Must be an international student who has a visa to study in the U.S.

• Must be currently enrolled full-time at Stockton

• Should be currently residing in the U.S.

• Must be maintaining legal visa status in the U.S.

• Must be facing an emergency situation

Timeline and Award

The application will be reviewed and approved by the Office of Global Engagement Advisory Board. The applicant will be notified within two weeks.

The amount typically does not exceed $500 (USD). Other award amounts may be considered on a case-by-case basis. One student can typically only be awarded once in a calendar year.

1. What is the International Students’ Emergency Fund?

The International Students’ Emergency Fund is intended to provide discretionary financial help to EU and International students in situations of unexpected short-term emergency or crisis.

The funds cannot be used to help with tuition fee costs or to provide any high-value, ongoing support. Awards may be made either as non-repayable grants or as loans.

2. I have completed the application form. What happens next?

Once we have received your form, the Student Funding team will consider whether funding from the International Students’ Emergency Fund may be appropriate to support you during your period of financial need.

Should your circumstances meet the purpose and eligibility of the fund we may contact you to arrange a short confidential interview with a Student Funding Adviser which will take approximately 30 minutes to an hour.

Also, the interview will be informal and will give you the opportunity to discuss your individual needs and circumstances in detail.

There is no guarantee that your application will be successful and result in an award being made to you. Interviews are held using Microsoft Teams and you will be sent a meeting invite when we confirm your appointment time.
