This scholarship is for less privileged girls in South Africa. Also, the academy is a female boarding school. And it was founded by Oprah Winfrey.
Also, it has the goal of providing educational. And leadership opportunities for academically gifted girls from impoverished backgrounds.
Also, this is one of the free scholarships in South Africa. Additionally, it is a residential boarding, special learning school.
And it has 300 students enrolled in Grades 8 -12. Also, the Academy teaches the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) in Grades 8 – 10.
While Grade 12 students write the Independent Examination Board (I.E.B.) NSC Examination. Furthermore, the Academy admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin. Also, this is one of the free scholarships in South Africa
This is to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the Academy. Also, scholarship, loans, athletic, cultural, residential and school-administered programs are been provided.
Furthermore, the Academy provides students in Grades 8 through 12 with an opportunity to develop their full intellectual, social and leadership potential.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be a girl. Also:

1. Who is currently in Grades 7, 8 or 9.
2. And must display leadership potential.
3. Also, must be a South African citizen. Or permanent residents who display academic talent.
4. And must be in a family whose total household income is less than R10,000 per month.

Entrance Tests

Applicants who meet the initial criteria will be invited to write entrance tests. This will be held at a number of different venues throughout South Africa.

More Extensive Testing – Academic and Leadership Potential

Furthermore, there is the selection and more extensive testing. This is of academic and leadership potential.

Selection Camps–Clinical Interviews and a Range of Psychological Assessments

Also, there are final selection camps. And this lasts 2 or 3 days. However, this will be held at the Academy later in the year.

Home Visits and Registration

And, all successful students will be registered at their homes at the end of the process.

NOTE:

Applications will be disqualified if you fail to submit all the required documents. And should any information submitted be found to be incorrect or untruthful, your application will be disqualified.
Also, a reference check will be conducted for every application. Thus, if you do not receive feedback from the Academy by 15 March 2022, your application is not successful.

Scholarships Worth

The scholarship is worth R825,000.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

1. You must come from South Africa.
2. Also, must have leadership qualities.
3. Additionally, must possess strength of character.
4. And must have good academic record.
5. Also must have community involvement.
6. And must have the potential to be a destiny changer in your chosen field.
7. And must intend on studying towards a postgraduate degree
8. Also, successful candidates should return to South Africa for at least five years after completing their studies. Also, preference will be given to applicants under the age of 35.
And the scholarship will not consider candidates who are currently, or have been studying overseas

Application Process

To apply, follow these steps religiously:

1. Firstly, visit the official website and register an account.
2. And then, log in and start your application.
3. Also, next, submit the required documents along with your completed application form.

Required Documents

1. Copy of your ID document.
2. And Photo of face.
3. Also, copy of your Matric results.
4. And Minimum of 2 references. People whom you have worked under in an academic setting. Or in another area of interest. Confidential references can be emailed from the referee to [email protected]. And clearly marked with your name (or can accompany your application form).
Also, a personal statement. Explain why you deserve to be awarded this scholarship (max. 1000 words).

After Submission, what Next?

Applicants will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of the application. And then, all applications are evaluated by at least three preliminary evaluators from FirstRand to previous winners of the scholarship.
Also, after evaluation, the board drafts a list of worthy applicants to be interviewed in Cape Town or Sandton. And then, four shortlisted candidates are selected for the two education scholarships.
Also, and are mandated to be available for the final interviews held in Sandton on Wednesday 17th April 2022.
Furthermore, ten shortlisted candidates are further selected. And this is for the FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar. Also, for FirstRand Foundation International Postgraduate Scholarships.
And the FirstRand Oxford African Studies Scholarship. However, you have to be available for the final interviews held in Sandton on Tuesday 21st April 2021. Lastly, the last announcement will be made before the end of June 2020.
