GENDER IN AGRICULTURE | MARTINS LIBRARY

The word gender is the fact of being male or female according to oxford advanced learners dictionary., agriculture is the rearing of animals and cultivation of crops for the interest of man, benefits in relation to source of food, source of income, benefits of source of shelters, employment opportunity and provision of raw materials for our industries.

The gender in agriculture is current issue about agriculture in different country like Canada, United States, mixed and Europe etc. the gender in agriculture simply implies the consideration placed on

selection of sex that will be involve in agricultural production. Some group of people especially the Northern part of Nigeria do not involve their female counterpart in the agricultural production and operation because, for their belief, they belief that farm operation are left for man while demonstrated activities like cooking and washing are the basic activities for female. But in Fulani land, they belief that after harvesting of live stock produce like milk that the female should play an important role for the distribution of the milk to their various customers in various part of the cities.

In agriculture may programmes has been conducted like acquiring women and the result was possible eg innovation women’s empowerment in agriculture index training posited by Evelyn Katingi etc.

The is vital needs to involve female in Agricultural activities, other than considering man to be the power house of agriculture without involving female to contribute their own quota of labour, hence labour is one oft the actor confronting agricultural activities.
