Helmut Schmidt scholarships 2022 in Germany

Applications for the DAAD Helmut Schmidt scholarships for the academic year 2022-2022 are now open. Helmut Schmidt offers students and graduates from developing countries the opportunity to obtain a Master’s degree in Germany in fields particularly relevant to their country’s development.

The Helmut Schmidt Scholarships of the DAAD aim to prepare future leaders in the fields of politics, law, economics, and administration. Through this program, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) aims to support good governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions.

  • LEVEL: Master.
  • DEADLINE: June 1ᵉʳ through July 31, 2022.
  • FUNDING: Fully funded (stipend + travel expenses + accommodation…).
  • TARGET GROUP: Developing countries.
  • HOST COUNTRY: Germany.

Scholarship amount and benefits

The following characteristics will be required of applicants for the Helmut Schmidt Scholarship:

  • Exemption from payment of tuition fees.
  • Monthly stipend of €931.
  • Health insurance coverage in Germany.
  • Travel allowance.
  • A research allowance.
  • Rent allowances and family supplements, if applicable.
  • German language course prior to arrival in Germany (six months)

Helmut Schmidt Fellows will also receive the following benefits:

  1. Support and coaching services.
  2. Events and seminars.
  3. Close exchange with other international fellows.

Apply within the application period

The application period for Helmut Schmidt scholarships will run from June 1rst to July 31st, 2022.

Scholarships awarded by Helmut Schmidt

Helmut Schmidt grants are available to the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree obtained with above-average results (top third of promotion) within the last six years.
  2. Citizens and residents of developing and emerging countries for more than 15 months at the time of application deadline.

Documentation requirements and application procedures

Each master program has its own application procedure. Application forms, as well as required documents (see below), should be submitted for the master’s courses of your choice (no more than two). The master’s courses are the only way to apply for scholarships.

Documents required for application are:

  1. DAAD Application Form.
  2. A letter of motivation.
  3. A curriculum vitae.
  4. Please provide copies of your higher education diplomas.
  5. Please provide a copy of your transcript and ranking.
  6. Work time certificates for all internships, volunteer work, and work experience listed.
  7. Recent German and/or English language certificates.
  8. A letter of recommendation that was recently written.

All applications must be submitted in English or German.
