The Honjo Foundation Scholarships for studying Japan are offered in autumn and summer semesters.
The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation offers a scholarship to foreign students enrolled in an international degree program at a university in Japan.
The scholarship recipient cannot refund funds received through the Foundation for their scholarships.
A monthly allowance is provided for accommodation and travel costs to attend International Conferences.
The scholarship winner has no other possibility of receiving this scholarship.
Honjo International Scholarship Foundation 2022 (Fully funded)
Foreign students who are enrolled in or intend to enroll in a Japanese graduate program for a master’s or doctorate degree are eligible for this award.
As long as a candidate is accepted to a Japanese graduate program, applications may be submitted from abroad.
All nations and academic specialties are welcomed. Without being chosen in advance by the institution, applicants may apply directly to the foundation.

Honjo Foundation Scholarship Benefits
Period and amount of scholarship
The scholarship will be provided every month throughout the minimum period required to acquire the degree.
The amount of scholarship depends on the differs based on the period as below:
- ¥200,000 per month for 1 ~ 2 years degree
- ¥180,000 per month for 3 years degree
- ¥150,000 per month for 4 ~ 5 years degree

- Doctorate course: up to 35 years as of April of the award year.
- Master’s course: up to 30 years as of April of the award year
How do I apply for Honjo International Scholarship Foundation Awards?
- Confirm that you are eligible to apply.
- Enter the “online application system”. Fill out the application form and upload the required documents.
- Once the documents are submitted, the application number will be issued, and PDF of your application form will be created. Please save the PDF file as you will need it when the result is announced on our website.
