How to Gain Admission into Medicine and Surgery in UNICAL

The University of Calabar (Unical) like every other Universities offer admission into this particular field but not without qualification. The entry requirement to study medicine and surgery at the degree level is listed below;

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 

UTME: Candidates applying via the jamb exams must possess five SSCE credit passes including Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and English Language.

DIRECT ENTRY: Direct entry candidates must possess ‘A’ level passes to include Physics, Chemistry Biology/Zoology in addition to UTME requirements.
(2) BSC, BOS etc in relevant fields.

HOW TO APPLY AS A UTME CANDIDATE

Application to study in this prestigious university follows the set rules as stipulated by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), this entails that to study in the university, you must;

1. Apply for and write the UME exams.
2. On application, you are required to fill in your preferred course of study (which should be medicine and surgery).
   1. You are to choose the University of Calabar as your first choice for the aforementioned choice of course.
3. Sit for and pass the UME examination having the approved cut off or above as to be accepted for the school’s pre-admission screening that follows. This screening is usually carried out using your jamb score and your WAEC score, so, the higher your jamb and WAEC score, the higher your chance of gaining admission and vise versa.
4. On your ability to fulfill the school’s pre-screening test, attaining the departmental cut off mark for the course as designed by the department of Medicine and Surgery, you will ultimately be given the admission you yearn for.

HOW TO APPLY AS DIRECT ENTRY CANDIDATE

As a direct entry student, you will need;

1. To purchase the direct entry form.
2. Fill in the form accurately indicating your choice of course
3. Submit your form to the jamb office to process your admission.
