IAMAT Travel Medicine Scholarship is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by the International Association For Medical Assistance To Travellers (IAMAT).
About the Scholarship
This is one of two scholarships offered to a doctor or nurse who lives and works in another African country outside South Africa. Practitioners with travel medical experience and the potential to develop the discipline in their own country will be given precedence.
The selected student will receive funding from the Robert Haru Fisher Travel Medicine Scholarship. The award is administered on behalf of IAMAT by the South African Society of Travel Medicine.
The mission of SASTM is to set the standard for travel medicine practice in all areas, including education and certification of travel health professionals.
Benefits of IAMAT Travel Medicine Scholarship
IAMAT pays for the tuition, educational materials, local transportation, and accommodations. The recipient is responsible for transportation to South Africa and any additional miscellaneous costs.
Upon successful completion of the course, IAMAT will reimburse the scholar for the airfare (economy class).
Requirements for IAMAT Travel Medicine Scholarship
1. Living and working in a country in Africa where travel medicine is an emerging specialty, outside of South Africa.
2. Knowledge in travel medicine.
3. Capacity to expand travel medicine in the workplace and region/country.
4. Proven excellent English writing and speaking proficiency.

Selection Criteria
The IAMAT scholar will be chosen based on the following:
1. Knowledge of travel medicine.
2. Capacity and commitment to expand travel medicine in the workplace and region/country.
4. Currently see travellers in your practice (inbound or outbound travellers).
5. Passionate about learning travel medicine best practices and teaching them to your colleagues and students.
6. Proven excellent English writing and speaking proficiency.
7. Preference will be given to candidates 45 years of age or younger.
