About the John G. Bene Fellowship
This call is open to Canadians and permanent residents of Canada pursuing masters or doctoral studies at a Canadian university.
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) was established by an act of Canada’s parliament in 1970. IDRC funds research in developing countries to promote growth, reduce poverty, and drive large-scale positive change.

Eligibility of IDRC-CRDI John G. Bene Fellowship
Citizens or permanent residents of Canada are eligible to apply. In principle, IDRC supports research in all developing countries.
You may apply for research in the following countries and territories, but if you are recommended ror an award, your application may be subject to a further stage of approval within IDRC: Arghanistan, Congo (Democratic Republic of), Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gabon, Gaza, Guinea-Bissau, Maldives, Micronesia, Monserrat, Myanmar, Sudan, Suriname, Venezuela, West Bank, Zimbabwe, some small island states including Comoros, Sao Tome and Principe, Saint Helena, Timor-Leste, and the Pacific Islands (Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Murshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna).

➢ You must be enrolled at a Canadian university at the master’s or doctoral level (when you submit your application, you must have completed several courses of the program, but not necessarily all the courses).
➢ Have an academic background that combines an interest in forests with social sciences. Applicants from interdisciplinary programs are eligible, provided their programs contain the specified elements.
➢ Your research proposal must be approved by your thesis supervisor and you must provide proof;
➢ Your proposed field of research must take place in one or more developing countries and be conducted for a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation.
➢ You must provide evidence of affiliation within an institution or organization in the developing region(s) in which the research will take place
➢ Doctoral students must have completed coursework and passed comprehensive exams before taking up the award
You may not be in receipt of two or more active IDRC awards at the same time. No time overlaps will be permitted.

How to Apply for IDRC-CRDI John G. Bene Fellowship
➢ How to Apply: To apply, the candidates need to take admission to any Canadian university. After being a university student, all applicants are eligible to apply for this opportunity .
➢ Supporting Documents: Before applying, applicants must prepare all the following documents: Research Proposal in clear English or French, 15-20 pages, double-spaced, in 12 point font, Letter of Affiliation.
Also, Letter of Approval from the Research Supervisor, Official transcripts, Proof of Citizenship/Permanent Residency, and Two references to be completed online with the online application.

Benefits
The program will provide one award of a maximum of CA$15,000 to cover field research expenses.
