– Indigenous Accommodation Scholarship –

The Indigenous Student Success Program is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students into their Indigenous Accommodation Scholarship for students. It is a partially funded scholarship for all students.

About Indigenous Accommodation Scholarship

The Indigenous Student Success Program is funded by the Commonwealth of Australia to improve higher education access, encourage Indigenous people to enrol in an undergraduate or approved postgraduate course at The University of Western Australia (‘the University), and increase Indigenous people’s participation and success in higher education.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be currently enrolled or enrolling in any year of any Enabling, Undergraduate (Commonwealth Supported Place), or Postgraduate program at the University of Newcastle.

2. Show financial hardship by either by having received a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment (such as Austudy, ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance) or based on a comprehensive assessment.

3. Be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander , AND identify AND be recognised by the community in which you live or have lived.

4. Be moving from a remote, rural, or regional area to study with UON.

5. If accepting the scholarship offer, must not have received – or agree to repay – a Student Start-up Loan, a Student Start-up Scholarship or a Relocation Scholarship or the Residential Costs option of ABSTUDY from Centrelink.

6. Must not have previously received the full entitlement of a Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarship awarded prior to 2021 or hold this scholarship concurrently at another institution.

Benefit

1. The scholarship provides $5500, paid as two instalments of $2750 after the semester one and semester two dates.

2. A pro-rata payment of $1375 will apply to semesters in which enrolment is part-time (10 or 20 units).

3. Midyear applicants will receive payment in semester two only and must reapply for the next academic year.

4. The advertised number of scholarships is indicative and may vary according to funding. Up to 5 scholarships will be reserved for Midyear 2022 admissions intake.

Selection is based on the information provided in the scholarship application and supporting documentation.
