While most college interview questions vary, many of those questions are reoccurring and would nearly always be asked. Since they would be asked, it is important that you grasp and have an idea of what those questions would be.
The college interview process can be nerve-racking. This interview gives the college you’re applying to another opportunity to evaluate you and help determine whether to offer you admission.

A college interview provides a college with an opportunity to give you more information about the school and answer questions.
In addition, the interview gives the college a chance to learn more about you, your interests, and how you’ll be able to contribute to the school.
Very few colleges require interviews, although a fair number offer optional or recommended ones. These are typically highly selective or small private colleges, such as Columbia, Occidental, and Bates.
Most large public universities don’t even offer interviews because there are simply too many applicants.
Check a college’s website or contact its admissions office to determine whether interviews are offered and how to schedule one.
Interviews can be on-campus, usually with an admissions representative, or off-campus near where you live, usually with an alumnus of the college.

1. Tell me Something About Yourself?
When answering this question, give information that is relevant such as your full name, your ethnicity, your address and what schools you studied previously.
There’s no need to state irrelevant information such as the number of pets you have and their names and what kind of house you live in. This kind of information is totally irrelevant to the interview.
2. What About you is Unique?
State what you think makes you special. For example, when asked, you could answer with “What makes me special is my ability to stay rational regardless of what is happening around and properly analyze the situation before reacting.”
3. Why did you choose our College and not Another one?
There are many reasons for this as the interviewer seeks to find out what you find passionate about the school and it’s a way of giving feedback.
“Your college has the best dramatic society in the state which has come out tops in drama competitions and as a person who seeks to major in theatre arts, this college is the perfect play for me to hone my skills and develop my potentials as an actor/actress.”
4. What Do you Think you can Contribute to this School?
This is one of the best times during the interview to let your imagination roam. For example, if you are a science student, you could state what you hope to contribute to the school.
“In my previous schools, I was always part of the quiz team and I hope to go to the regional and national science fair and competitions to represent the school and bring glory to it.
Last year the school came second and I hope to join to help it take it one step better to win the competition.”
5. If you had to pick three books to read for a year outside your academic work, which would they be?
“I’ve always found science fiction interesting and books to help toughen me mentally so three of the books I would pick if those were my only option would be:

6. What has been your Proudest Achievement so far?
“I enrolled for a science quiz competition in high school to represent my school at the state level along with senior students two classes ahead of me and those from the other competing schools too.
When the results were announced, I came second and beat even those two classes ahead of me in other schools to the second prize. It has given me real confidence.”
7. Which person has had the greatest influence on your life?
My Uncle, Uncle Johnson. Ever since I lost my parents as a child he has taken me as his own son and has been a very present and influence in my life. He’s the reason I started at a young age.”
8. How would your friends and family describe you?
“They would say I never say never and never let a refusal get to me and always try to be better.”
9. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
“As I stated before, my strength is my ability to stay analytical at all times.
What I think is my real weakness is my tendency to be a control freak. As the eldest of three siblings, I always have to look out for all of us and it means I get too serious sometimes as I have to be the most matured one.
With time I accept that as my siblings are growing, they can take care of themselves and I should let them make a few mistakes of their own as long as the mistakes do not hurt them.”
10. How do you define “success?”
“Success is any situation or thing in which you think your efforts and energy and time which were invested into an activity have an output which measures up to the energy invested into it.
If I put in five things into doing something and I get six things back, for me it is successful.”

“I’ve learned that I have my life to live and I don’t have to follow the crowd to do something if I am not convinced I should do it.”
12. Why are you Interested in our college?
“I am interested in developing my potentials as an engineer by taking advantage of the many workshops, seminars and technology classes offered in the college.”
13. Why do you want to major in?
Let’s say computer science. “My uncle Johnson made me love programming so I want to major in computer science.”
14. How do you react when you disagree with your teacher?
I once had to disagree with my teacher because he fixed a school activity for the weekend just days before and during the weekends I help at home and run errands so we disagreed.
Eventually, he suggested I could prepare my part of the project the Friday before and spend one hour with the class on Saturday then go back home. We came to a compromise.
15. What do you do in your spare time?
“I experiment with the software on my laptop and try my hands with graphics designing.”

“I hope to become a better programmer and establish myself as the chief competitor in science in my category.”
17. What do you expect to be doing ten years from now?
“I expect to have gotten a degree in computer science and certifications in computer networking and mobile and web app development. I expect to work in a large IT firm and also freelance as a programmer for others.”

Keep in mind that any controversial topic could be asked. Make sure you attempt them and be articulate. You could even endear yourself to the interviewer if the question and answers turn to a discussion. You don’t have to be perfect with your answers. Just be opinionated.
19. Do you play sport and if yes, which?
I play table tennis and I intend to sign up for the team once I get on campus.
20. What do you want to get out of your college experience?
I expect to be a more rounded person and be equipped with the skills to deal with the challenges of the wider world.
If you have the option of getting interviewed, do it. It’s to your benefit to take advantage of an opportunity to interview because it shows the school that you’re genuinely interested in attending.
And showing interest can help your chances of admission. Finally, the interview gives the school another chance to get to know you outside of what’s in your application.
