About National Council of Arts and Culture

Decree No. established the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) 3 of 1975 and amended by Decree No. 5 of 1987 (now Cap N25 Laws of the Federation 2004).

It is a Federal Government organ charged, with the responsibility of coordination, development and promotion of the Living Arts and Culture of Nigeria at national and international fora.

Drawing from its Enabling Law, the Council’s mandate includes:

1. To plan and coordinate Cultural activities towards fostering the development of Literary, Visual and Performing Arts in Nigeria.

2. To coordinate national Cultural events amongst the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

3. To promote skills acquisition and youth empowerment through cultural industries.

4. To develop and promote the Arts and Crafts Industry through specialized Exhibitions and Expos.

5. To promote and develop the revival of Nigerian Arts and Culture through research and publications.

6. To help the States in Arts and Culture;

7. To promote the development of music, traditional dancing, drama, indigenous games, opera, cinema, films, and photography.

Also, as folklore, oral tradition, literature and poetry, painting, sculpture, architecture and general arts, woodwork, embroidery, weaving and other crafts.

8. To establish, to carry out its functions under this Act, a National Endowment Fund for the Arts.

9. To network with Arts Councils of other countries of the world and other relevant international agencies such as the International Federation of Art Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) and the World Crafts Council (WCC) etc.

10. To establish with the approval of the Hon. Minister, Cultural Centre, Theatres, Art Galleries and Craft Centres for the promotion of Arts and Culture.

NCAC Job Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants applying for the National Council of Arts and Culture recruitment must possess any of the following

1. Possession of B.Sc, HND, NCE, OND concerning the applied position from a recognized institution.

2. Any added certificate either postgraduate or professional certification will be of advantage.

3. NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.

4. West African School Certificate (WAEC) with Credits in not less than three (3) subjects including English and at least passes in two (2) other subjects.

5. Candidates must have National Examination Council (NECO) with passes in four (4) subjects got at one sitting or five (5) subjects got at two sittings including the English Language.)

6. National Diploma (ND) got from a recognised institution.

7. National Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognised institution.

8. All candidates must have a valid means of identification such as a valid driver’s license, National Identification Card, International passport, Voter’s card etc.

9. Ability to work with basic computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).

10. Geographical mobility within and outside Nigeria.
