About the University of Lagos College of Medicine
The medical school connected with the University of Lagos is the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), often known as Medilag.
It is situated alongside its sister institution, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, in Idi-Araba, Lagos.
The college of medicine was created inside the University of Lagos on the 13th of April 1962 by an act of the Federal Parliament to train professionals in medicine, dentistry, and other health-related fields.
The first batch of 28 medical students was admitted to the college in October 1962, and on October 3, 1962, they received their first lectures.
The college is interested in research, such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, MDR tuberculosis, Lassa fever, and other diseases. It has a Central Research Laboratory (CRC) that serves as a centre for research. It also has a research ethics committee that reviews all research proposals.
On issues relating to malaria, HIV/AIDS, Lassa fever, Tuberculosis, and other diseases.
The college has ongoing collaborations with WHO/TDR, CDC, Hospital for Tropical Diseases [HTD], Australia Army Malaria Institute, Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), Geneva, Family Health International (FHI), Harvard/APINS, and Volkswagen Stifung Foundation, Germany.
