- National Examination Council (NECO)/General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level
- All candidates must have passed in four (4) subjects at one sitting or five (5) subjects obtained at two sittings including the English Language.)
- National Diploma (ND) obtained from a recognized institution.
- Also a National Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognized institution.
- General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) in two (2) subjects obtained at one sitting or three (3) subjects obtained at two sittings.
- Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) certificate would be an added advantage.

The State Secondary Education Board (SSEB) was established in 1988 backed up by enabling law Bill No. 4 of 16th June 2003.
The Board has 25 Local Education Committees 252 Public Secondary Schools and 1 Special Education Centre under its control.

The Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board has released the list of selected candidates for the Centre Based Tests Exams which is part of the screening process for the recruitment of teachers into state-owned secondary schools.
The exams are to take place from Thursday 18th March 2021 to Friday 19th March 2021. The exams are to be held across approved cbt centers all over the state.
