MATERIALS USED IN LOCATING Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, As and Ni IN THE STREAM SEDIMENTS FROM RIVER

MATERIALS

            Field materials and Laboratory Materials were involved during the accomplishment of this protect work. They include the following.  

Field Materials

            During field mapping, the following materials were used with their functions stated.

  • Brunton Compass: This was used in taking attitude of the bedding plane, joints and veins and also in noting the four cardinal points.
  • Geologic Hammer: Used for collection of fresh samples and scaling while taking pictures.
  • Base Map: Used for location accessibility and recording of features taken from the field.
  • Camera: Used in taking important pictures and features of interest from the study area.
  • Sample Bags: Used for storage and carrying of fresh samples picked from the field.
  • Measuring Tape: For measuring bed thickness
  • Global Positioning System (G.P.S): For notifying longitude and latitude as well as elevation of the place during the collection of samples for analysis.

Laboratory Materials

            The Laboratory materials used in this project work include the following:

  • Hydrogen chloride (HCL)
  • Heater: Used for heating the specimen
  • Agate mortar with pestle: Used for homogenizing
  • Burette and pipette
  • Nose mask: Used to cover the nose avoiding choking or inhalation of chemical.
  • Measuring cylinder
  • Funnels and filter paper: Used for filteration.
  • Electronic chemical weighing balance: Used for weighing out samples for specimen.
