Tips for Applying to Mcgill University
- Complete your application on a computer, not a smartphone. And please note that the online application is not compatible with Internet Explorer.
- Keep track of your Login ID and PIN. When you create your account, you’ll be asked to select a Login ID and PIN. Be sure to save this information so you can log in to your application while working on it.
- Use both program choices. You can include two program choices in your application for the price of one! And it doesn’t matter what order you use. Both program choices will be reviewed and you will receive a separate decision for each one (though you may not receive these decisions at the same time). If you want to apply to more than two programs, you’ll need to submit and pay for another application.
- Use an email address that you check regularly. We will connect with you from time-to-time through email to provide important information regarding your application and how to complete your file. Make sure you enter the correct email address and watch your inbox for notifications.
- Tell us who can obtain information on your behalf. How to Submit Supporting Documents
Review your pre-application to-do list and the program pages to make sure you have all the required documents according to your educational background and the program(s) you’re applying to.
Uploading Additional Documents
In most cases, you will need to upload your supporting documents rather than mailing or faxing them. Uploading will save you time and effort and the expense of mailing transcripts and supporting documents.
Plus, it can speed up the review of your application so that you can obtain an admission decision sooner. They suggest you submit documents as soon as possible to prevent any delays to your application review.
Do not mail, fax or submit electronically copies of the documents that you have already uploaded to your application; doing so may slow down the review of your application.
Uploading External Test Results
It is your responsibility to ensure official test results are sent directly to McGill by the testing board. McGill’s strong preference is to receive results electronically, directly from the issuing organization, when possible. Note the following:
- Applicants should not attempt to upload or email results.
- McGill University receives many test results electronically, including (but not limited to) ACT, AP, Duolingo, IB, IELTS, SAT, TOEFL. Note that McGill’s institutional code for TOEFL and College Board (SAT, AP) is 0935-00; for ACT, it is 5231. There is no institution code required for IELTS, or other tests.
- The personal information you provide to the examination board needs to match the information you provide to McGill. If there is a discrepancy in personal information, They will not be able to match your electronic results.
