Mandates of the MDCN
The Medical and Dental professions in Nigeria are regulated by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap 221 (now Cap M8) Laws of Federation of Nigeria 1990 which sets up the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria with the following mandates:
• Regulation of training in Medicine, Dentistry and Alternative Medicine in Nigeria
• Regulation of Medical, Dental, and Alternative Medicine practice in Nigeria.
• Determination of the knowledge and skills of these professionals.
• Regulation and control of Laboratory Medicine in Nigeria.
The Statutory Functions of the MDCN
• Determining the standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the medical or dental profession and reviewing those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit.
• Securing under this Act the establishment and maintenance of registers of persons entitled to practice as members of the medical or dental profession and the publication from time to time of lists of those persons.
• Reviewing and preparing from time to time, a statement as to the Code of Conduct which the Council considers desirable for the practice of the professions in Nigeria.
• Performing the other functions conferred on the Council by the Act.
How to Reset MDCN Portal Login Password
• Go to Portal.mdcn.gov.ng
• Click on Login on the Doctor’s access page
• Click on Forgot Password on the right-hand side of the form
• Add your registered email address
• Click on Forgot Password
• You should get a message on the website stating a new password has been sent to your email address.

Step by Step Guide for MDCN Registration
Here, you will find out how to perform MDCN full registration online. All you need to do is follow our easy guidelines. We promise that you will not find it difficult. So, let’s get started.
1. First of all, you need to visit the official website of the MDCN portal. Here, you will see the bar with quick links. When you direct your cursor at the “Registration. MDCN Licensing,” you will be able to see the additional menu dropping out.
From the three-heading menu, click on any shortcut starting with “full registration.” You will be redirected to the next page.
2. On the registration page, we can see four windows for logging in and registration, providing options for medical staff, organizations, and providers of CPD. The one that is of our interest today is “Doctors’ Access.” Click the “Register” button and proceed to the next step.
3. You will see the window named “Create an account as a Doctor,” in which you need to fill the necessary blanks. For the first one, you need to select the type of practice you have. Here, you have three options:
• Medical registration;
• Dental registration;
• Alternative registration.
Pick the option which is relevant for you and move to the neighboring gap.
4. The next one is for the number of your license, and it is called “Folio number.” Fill it out correctly. Note, please, that this is not applicable for those Nigerian doctors who have studied abroad and for foreign doctors as well.
Now, you have to fill three blanks with your first name, last name, and other names (for example, the middle name if you have one). The next gap is for your phone number and e-mail. You should provide the current information so that everyone could contact you.
Also, there is an option to select your gender. After you have filled all the blanks, you need to click the “SUBMIT NOW” button, and that is it. Now, you are done with the registration.
MDCN Remita Payment Procedure
When you visit the MDCN portal official website, the first thing that meets you is the disclaimer about the requirement for payments. There are two options provided:
• You can make payment directly through the MDCN portal
• You can make payment using the Remita service.
That is why, today, we are going to show you how to do it using the second option. So, read on to learn the process. The first thing you need to do is visit the Remita Payment website, particularly for the MDCN portal payment.
MDCN License Renewal
If you want to renew your doctor’s license, follow these simple steps. First of all, you have to visit the Remita website for MDCN payments. Here is the link for it; just follow it. And, on this page, you need to fill the gaps accurately to process the payment.
• From the drop-out menu in the “Service Name” section, select the option “Practicing fee.”
• Specify the “Description.” Here, you need to write that you want to pay for an annual practicing license.
• Insert your personal information (your full name, e-mail, and phone number).
• Complete the verification code step and submit the payment. When you finish your payment, you will receive a Remita Retrieval Reference, which you will use for the next steps to accomplish the procedure.
