Salary Structure of Governors by State… The salary of Governors in Nigeria has reduced compared to that of the past governors. This is because of the new policy taken by the Presidency to manage the country’s funds.

This article is going to shed light on the salary of Governors in Nigeria.

Presently, a state governor in Nigeria earns N11, 540,896 yearly; the basic salary is N2, 223,705 and the yearly allowance is N222, 370.50. The Governor is allowed a 400% loan from his yearly salary for vehicles and maintenance and this will amount to N8, 894,820 as stated in the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) which became effective since 1st July, 2009.

However, it is seen that these Governors drive around with convoys and these cars include SUVs and others which are very expensive. Therefore it is clear that the Governors are spending more than the amount approved for vehicles, which is N8, 894,820 and in fact, the stipulated amount is not enough to buy the cars.

The Governor is also entitled to estacode allowances; this is given when they go on foreign trips. He can take any amount he wants from the state coffer as stated in the RMAFC package.

The respective states bear the medical expenses of the Governors and he is given a severance gratuity of N6, 671,115 at the end of his tenure.
