ABSTRACT
The research work was written on the topic; utilization of nursing process by nurses and patient quality care in of Luke’s Hospital Anua, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
The following three objectives were formulated: to assess the benefit of the utilization of nursing process by nurses and patient quality care, to examine the steps of nursing process and it’s impact on patient quality care and to determine the factors affecting utilization of nursing process.
A descriptive design was used for the study with a target population of 180 nurses. Sample size of 100 nurses was obtain from the target population using Taro Yamme formula. A simple random sampling technique was used in selecting the respondents. Self structured questionnaire with open ended question was used as the instrument for data collection.
A reliability test result was correlated using kuder Richardon 20 formula with the co-efficient of 0.6 data analyzed using frequencies, percentages and the result of the finding were presented in tables and simple bar chart. Finding show that 98% of the respondents agreed that inadequate knowledge about nursing process can be a barrier to effective utilization of nursing process by nurses.
100% of the respondents accepted that, the use of nursing process promote active involvement of client in their health care enhancing consumer satisfaction and 95% agreed that documentation and implementation of the six component of nursing process will enhance nurses function in patient quality care. Literature related to the study was review and theoretical framework applied using Orlando theory.

INTRODUCTION
In the early days before nursing process was developed, nurses provided care that was based on medical orders written by physicians and focuses on the specific disease condition rather than the person to be cared for. These were accomplished with little or no concern or the total personality of the sick.
The practice of nursing back then also focused on the actions of nurses based, customs, common sense and their action were not necessarily structured, deliberate or scientific nor was it individualized to consumers of nursing care (Esters, 2009).
Nursing process is a cyclic process, purposeful activity and interactive in nature involving intellectual and physical activities. It examines the personalized or individualized care nurses give or deliver to their patient and it is an evidenced based approached to health care delivery system.
Nursing process is a systematic method which utilizes scientific reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking to direct nurses in caring for patients effectively (Altamier 2010). Since early 970s, nursing process has been in the curriculum for nursing education in Nigeria. The implication is that many nurses possess the theoretical knowledge of nursing process.
