WAEC
The West African Examination Council this body came into being in the year 1952. It was found or established in 1952 with the primary aim of taking care of the educational concern of Africa. It is not a profit oriented establishment. The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has provided educational services to Anglophones countries in Africa. There establishment role is anchored on the provision of examinations and certificate issuance to these countries under their coverage which includes Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia Sierra Leone and Liberia. They also formed an endowment fund, to contribute to the education in West Africa through lectures and aid those who can not afford education.
As a matter of fact, WAEC from the time of its inception in 1952 till date has carried out their arduous task effectively amidst challenges they have conducted various cadre of examines as well as insured certificates to deserving students. They have also improved educational standards through their various lectures organized in African schools.
PROBLEMS FACING WAEC
The major problem WAEC is the ugly trend of examination malpractices. Students sitting for the examination has resorted to using assorted methods to indulge in malpractice such as gaining the knowledge of exam paper (questions) before the examination etc other problems arises in misspelling of candidate name and sometimes given a candidate courses he did not apply for. In addition, it is a very big challenge conducting exams for all the various secondary schools throughout the regions covered by WAEC. How to recruit invigilators for those various exams equally constitute their major challenges in meeting up with the required academic standards.
NECO
The national examination council established in Nigeria in the year 1999 with its headquarter located in Minna State. It was established to carry out the following functions:
Revising and considering , annually in the public interest the examinations to be held for admission into federal government colleges and other allied institutions.
Collecting and disseminating information on all matters relating to admission into federal government colleges.
Generally, handling the conduct of examinations in the secondary school level of SS 3 and issuance of certificate.
So far, the board to a large extent has made tremendous move towards providing the educational needs of Nigerians was well as replacing the West African Examination Council.
PROBLEM FACING NECO
The major problem militating against NECO just like any other educational organization of the sort is examination malpractices. This is the situation whereby students on their own or connive with teachers to cheat in examination. This is nearly a problem because it is seriously dragging the quality of education in Nigeria to be floor. The national examination council is bent on overcoming this problem.
Another major problem militating against NECO is the efficient conduct of SSCE for all the schools throughout the nation regarding accessibility and registration of school candidates
NTI
Nigeria teachers institute was established in 1976 with headquarter at Kaduna primarily for the pressing need in the country for trained qualified teaching staff at all levels of the educational system. It I a national agency charged with t responsibility of upgrading teachers skills in Nigeria especially at primary and secondary level. Over the years, the NTI has provide courses of instruction leading to the upgrade development and certification of Nigeria teachers as specified in the relevant syllabuses using the distant learning system.
They work towards the enhancement of the professional skills of serving teachers for higher quality education delivery at primary and secondary levels with a view to uplifting the standards of the education system of the country.
The national teachers institute upgrade the teachers knowledge and skills in curriculum implementation while instilling in them the virtues of dedication, loyalty, commitment, discipline and resourcefulness.
PROBLEM FACING NTI
The institution is faced with the challenges of producing competent and qualitative teachers to meet up with the increasing demands of education in Nigeria. These has been there major struggle since its establishment to ensure that the quality of teachers they produce can compete favourably with teachers in any other part of the world.
UNESCO
Untied Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nation (U.N). its purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice the rule of law and human rights along with fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the U.N charter UNESCO has 196 members with National and Regional Offices. Its main scope is under fire programmes: education natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture and communication and information. The sponsor programmes such as literacy technical and teacher – training programmer; international science programme, promotion of the fress, regional and cultural history projects; the promotion of culture diversity: international co-operation and agreement to secure the world cultural an
d natural heritage.
PROBLEMS FACING UNESCO
The major problem militating against UNESCO is financial problem . Poor funding of the institution is a major blow against its survival. The contributors to the financial up keep of the organization are member countries, these member countries failure to pay their usual dues constitute the major challenges of the UNESCO.
In addition, the vast territories under the coverage of UNESCO equally constitute a challenge to the over all efficient administration of the organization. This has given rise to mismanagement and waste of funds in some areas of note. In school most of the giant donors like USSR, Britain, America has joined the third world countries to become demanders. Their demands are multitudinous and UNESCO is really finding the demand very challenging.
JSSCE
Junior School Certificate Examination is the examination organized by the National Examination council (NECO) for those in the second cadre of the 6334 educational system operated by Nigeria.
The examination enables a transition from Junior Secondary at their third year after sitting for the exam with a minimum of ten subjects and must obtain at least six passes include in English and Mathematics.
This JSCE is meant to certify that students has reached the required criteria for moving over to the senior secondary level.
PROBLEMS FACING JSCE
Starting from the year 2006, the JSCE has been confronted with a lot of challenges. Notable among them is financial problems . I has been a clog on the wheel of JSCE because of the improper funding and low finance generation in meeting up with her yearly demands of organizing exams and issuing certificates. There is problems also on how to pay the various staffs of the JSCE and other things which requires money.
Another major problem is how to effectively teach thirteen or all the required subjects in Junior secondary school for the student to pass as much as required.
In addition, the students, the teacher also constitute a prolem because the teachers has the role of teaching effectively while the students has their own role of studying to make these achievable is a problem facing the JSCE in Nigeria amongst other.
In conclusion, it has been surveyed that these academic institutions were established with some aims and objectives. These they have carried out in the midst of challenges starting form their various periods of establishment till date. They are faced with various degrees of challenges trying to undermine its aims and objectives for its establishment . These are what have been variously x-rayed with the aim of providing recourse to the continual and successful operation of those organizations as discussed above.
