– DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship –

DAAD, Germany is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for their DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholarship. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students.

About the Scholarship

The scholarship program “Leadership for Africa” (LfA) aims to support the academic qualification and advancement of young refugees and national scholars from Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger and Senegal at higher education institutions in Germany.

“Leadership for Africa” offers scholarships for Master’s studies in Germany to qualified applicants in all fields of study except for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Arts and Architecture.

All “Leadership for Africa” scholarship holders benefit from a complementary training program in good governance, civil society and career development.

The mandatory program must be completed in addition to the regular studies.

Benefits of DAAD Scholarship

1. Language Courses (2,4 or 6 months) in Germany before the start of the study course program which includes the coverage of test fees for a German language Certificate (TestDaF or DSH test), as well as pocket money and accommodation.

Participation in a language course is compulsory if the study program is based on German Languages.

2. Adequate health, accidents, and personal liability insurance in Germany.

3. Monthly scholarship rate payments of 861 EURO.

4. Additional mandatory training program LEAD.

5. Study Allowance annually.

6. If applicable, monthly rent subsidy and monthly allowance for accompanying family members (spouse and/or children)

Duration of Scholarship

Generally, selected candidates will start their German language course in April 2022 and take up their studies at a German institution of higher education by approx. October 1st, 2022.

The duration of funding is determined by the standard period of study of the chosen program. The Master’s program requires two years of full-time study.

Eligibility for Scholarship

The program targets two groups:

1) Highly qualified refugees who hold refugee status and fulfil the qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany.

Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

Holding refugee status in their host countries, being granted before April 18th, 2022.

The country of asylum must be either Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger or Senegal.

Completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application.

2) Highly qualified graduates from Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger or Senegal who fulfil the necessary qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany.

Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

Citizenship of either Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger or Senegal.

Country of residence is Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger or Senegal.

Completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application.

Requirements of the Scholarship

1. Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree at the time of application. 

2. A Bachelor’s degree of at least 2nd class upper-division level.

3. As a rule, not more than 6 years should have passed since the completion of the last academic degree.

4. Good English or good German language skills.

Please note that all documents must be uploaded to the DAAD portal. Incomplete applications will be formally rejected and will be excluded from the application process. If you submit documents in your national language, you must include English or German translations.
