Indigenous Commonwealth Costs Scholarship 2022 Application Update

Indigenous Commonwealth Costs Scholarship is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a partially funded scholarship for all students sponsored by Flinders University.

About Flinders University

Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia.

Founded in 1966, they named it in honor of navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.

The Commonwealth government and Flinders University have established the Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (ICECS) to assist indigenous students with costs associated with their study at Flinders University.

Benefits of Indigenous Commonwealth Costs Scholarship

The 2022 value is $2,756.00 per annum ($1,378.00 per semester). 

Scholarships awarded mid year will only be valid for one semester, therefore students awarded mid year will get a single payment of $1,378.00 only.

The number of ICECS available each year will be determined by annual funding from the Commonwealth government.

Requirements for Indigenous Commonwealth Costs Scholarship 

All scholarship applicants must:

1. Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and

2. Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and

3. Be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which they live or have lived; and

4. Normally be enrolled full time at Flinders University in an undergraduate or postgraduate course of study or the Foundation Studies program; and

5. Not have received a Student Start-up Scholarship or Student Start-up Loan (available to ABSTUDY, Austudy and Youth Allowance recipients); and

6. Be able to show financial disadvantage or have a permanent home address in Inner or Outer Regional, Remote or Very Remote Australia as defined by the Australian Standard Geographic Classification (ASGC).

Selection Process

In selecting recipients the following factors will be considered:

1. The applicant’s permanent home address.

2. Financial need.

3. University entrance pathway and score (commencing students).

4. GPA (continuing students).
