– Shaping Futures Scholarships –
The University of Newcastle Australia is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students into their Shaping Futures Scholarships for students. It is a partially funded scholarship for all students.
About Shaping Futures Scholarships
The Shaping Futures Postgraduate Scholarship helps postgraduate coursework students overcome adversity and educational disadvantage, similar to how the Shaping Futures Scholarship helps undergraduate students.
These scholarships support students who are academically capable but managing studies alongside educational disadvantages, such as
1. Career responsibilities
2. English language difficulty
3. Financial hardship
4. Long-term medical condition/ disability or ongoing effects of abuse
5. or remote disadvantage
6. Sole parent responsibilities
7. Home care experience
8. Additional attributes such as Indigenous Australians or having Refugee status.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
1. Be enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Newcastle.
2. Be enrolled full-time.
3. Show academic progress either by the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent required for entry for commencing students, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 for continuing students.
4. Show the impact of personal circumstances, such as carer, sole parent, financial hardship, English language difficulty, Indigenous Australians, long-term medical condition or effects of abuse, disability, refugee status, regional/remote disadvantage.
5. Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident (includes New Zealand Permanent Residents).
6. Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle -funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required Documentation
Your application will not be processed unless you provide documentation. Prior to completing the online application procedure, please have all required documents ready to upload as PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, or JPG files.
A personal essay (about one A4 page) explaining your academic achievements, professional goals in the relevant field of study, and how this scholarship might help you.
You may be required to provide documents to support your educational disadvantage claims. These will be identified when you apply based on your individual application responses.
Benefit
Following selection and after the census date for Semester 1, the scholarship gives a reward of $4000 to be paid as a lump amount (during April).
As monies raised for 2022 are confirmed, the number of scholarships offered will grow.
Selection
The scholarship application and any required supporting documentation will be evaluated before a decision is made. Applications will be ranked according to the criteria, and offers will be offered to those who best fit the requirements.
To be considered for the Student Living Shaping Futures Scholarships, students must identify whether or not they live on-campus at the University of Newcastle. At least one of these named scholarships will be awarded to a resident of Edward Hall who is .
Interviews may be arranged if required.
