Veteran College Admission for First Year Students
You are considered a first-year student applicant if you are:
- a first-time college student who has graduated from high school and never enrolled in college
- a first-time college student who has been home-schooled
- a first-time college student who has attended high school and college during the same time period (dual enrollment) or has taken some college courses during high school
Veteran College Admission Requirements
Your application will be reviewed when the Office of Admission has received all of these materials:
- A completed Common Application
- Official high school transcript (preferably through the Common Application)
- We waive the application fee for ALL U.S. military undergraduate applicants. Ensure that you identify as a Veteran on the Common Application.
- List of senior courses (admission is contingent upon successful completion of all your current coursework and graduation from high school)
- Official or scores (MUST be sent electronically by the testing service: the URI ID code is 3919 for SAT and 3818 for ACT)
- Essay (pharmacy applicants must include an additional paragraph explaining their choice of major)
- At least one letter of recommendation (please limit to two). If your guidance counselor writes your letter of recommendation (which is our preference), there is no need to submit a teacher evaluation/recommendation. Pharmacy applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation
Preparing for Veteran College Admission
- If you are a military service member and plan to use Federal Tuition Assistance, please speak with your Educational Services Officer (ESO) or an education counselor within your branch of service prior to starting the application process.
- If you plan to use , determine which federal VA educational program(s) you qualify for.
- Compare the provided by each VA educational benefit program.
- Gather the needed for your benefits program.

Certification
As a veteran student, you must complete a to verify your intent to take classes and receive benefits for the Fall/Spring/Summer semester(s). We will only certify when we receive your worksheet and you are registered.
Return the completed worksheet to Enrollment Services. The worksheet is also available at the Enrollment Services Veterans Office in Green Hall, Kingston, or at the Veterans Office at the Providence Campus.
Forms
Transfer Of Military Credit
Credit is awarded for Basic Training (4 – 8 credits for most branches). Additional credit allowance may be granted by the student’s dean in accordance with the recommendations of the American Council on Education (ACE) when appropriate to the student’s curriculum.
No credit is awarded for schools that are specific to military activities, or for Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
