– School of Mind & Brain Scholarship –

DAAD scholarship is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for the School of Mind & Brain Scholarship. It is a well-funded scholarship for all students.

About the Scholarship

DAAD scholarship in Germany is a private, federally funded and state-funded, self governing national agency of the institutions of higher education in Germany, representing 365 German higher education institutions (100 universities and technical universities, 162 general universities of applied sciences, and 52 colleges of music and art) [2003].

The DAAD itself does not offer programs of study or courses, but awards competitive, merit-based grants for use toward study and/or research in Germany at any of the accredited German institutions of higher education.

Aim and Benefits of School of Mind & Brain Scholarship

The total value of the scholarship comes to:

1. Scholarship payments of monthly € 1,200 per month, for three years;

2. Travel allowance to and from Germany;

3. Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance cover;

4. A research allowance of €460 resp. €230 (from developed countries) per year;

5. Under certain circumstances, grant holders may receive the following additional benefits such as monthly rent subsidy, monthly allowance for accompanying family members (about €200 child allowance per child and about €275 marriage allowance);

6. A German language course (if desired and possible with respect to the starting date of the scholarship);

7. A material resource and supervision allowance of currently € 1,000 per year, which is paid upon application to the host institution/supervisors.

Eligibility rules for the DAAD-funded doctoral scholarship:

1. When the DAAD receives the nomination letter from the Berlin School of Mind and Brain (30 June 2022), the last final exam (Master’s degree or equivalent) of the student must not have taken place longer than six years ago.

2. When DAAD receives the nomination letter from the Berlin School of Mind and Brain (30 June 2022), applicants must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months (i.e., not before April 2021

Interview Date, Process, and Venue for the Scholarship

1. Because we are advertising only one doctoral scholarship, the competition will be strong. From our experience, applicants with more unusual academic backgrounds for the scientific study of the mind and the brain will be unlikely to succeed.

2. Therefore, should you not have the academic background recommended for our graduate school–i.e., philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, psycholinguistics -, you might reconsider applying for this scholarship.
