The School of Environmental and Life Sciences (SELS) is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students into their SELS FrogLab Vacation Scholarship for students. It is a Partially funded scholarship for all students.
About SELS FrogLab Vacation Scholarship
Three summer grants are available from the School of Environmental and Life Sciences (SELS) for students who show a strong interest in and dedication to conservation biology. This offers an opportunity to take part in a learning experience on Kooragang Island as part of the monitoring program for the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frogs.
Because of significant reductions in amphibian populations around the world, research into the successful conservation of amphibians is becoming increasingly important. The green and golden bell frog was originally a common species in the area, but its range has shrunk significantly, and it is now categorized as a threatened species.
Eligibility
An applicant must meet the following conditions in order to be considered for this scholarship:
1. Enrol in the University of Newcastle’s School of Environmental and Life Sciences’ B Science or B Environmental Science and Management programs.
2. Environmental Science and Ecology units have been completed.
3. Show an interest in working on a conservation research project over your summer break.
4. Be available to engage in research late at night (typically 8 p.m.–1 a.m.), preferably with your own transportation.

Documents Required
With the scholarship application, you must send the following documents:
A brief statement (maximum 300 words) describing your experience and/or interest in field and amphibian conservation biology, as well as your availability to take part in a monitoring program during the vacation period of December 2021 to February 2022.
Selection for SELS FrogLab Vacation Scholarship
Academic merit (CGPA); and consideration of your written proposal and shown interest in the research field are the criteria for selection.
Your availability for the research study, as well as your capacity to transfer yourself.
On the proposal of the Scientific Officer, Kooragang Island Bell Frog Monitoring Program, School of Environmental and Life Sciences, the selection will be accepted.
Benefit
Three $2,000 scholarships are available. I will give this payment is equal to $1000 instalments upon acceptance of the scholarship and at the end of the project in February 2022.
While not required, the scholarship provides a valuable opportunity to actively take part in the monitoring program on Kooragang Island for the endangered Green and Golden Bell Frogs.
From December 2021 to February 2022, this will take place over an eight-week period. Over the summer, this will provide an opportunity to get experience in field research and environmental management. Participation will be required between the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., and it is recommended that you have access to your own transportation for this.
Termination
When the recipient’s circumstances change and the scholarship’s eligibility requirements are no longer met, the scholarship’s maximum duration is reached, or the recipient provides written notice that they no longer wish to continue on the scholarship, the scholarship will be ended before it is completed.

The University of Newcastle will only disclose your personal information to the necessary for the provision of this scholarship.
